POSITION SUMMARY:

The Building Engineer at Hotel Granduca is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems throughout the property. This role plays a vital part in maintaining the comfort and satisfaction of our guests by delivering timely maintenance, preventive care, and responsive repairs across guest rooms, public areas, and exterior grounds.

Key responsibilities include completing work orders, performing general preventive maintenance and corrective repairs, and monitoring building operations and performance. The Engineer will also handle a variety of tasks such as grounds maintenance, painting, caulking, drywall, plumbing, HVAC, and electrical work. This position requires a hands-on professional with a strong technical background and a commitment to maintaining the high standards of Hotel Granduca.

POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Perform preventive maintenance and corrective repairs of Hotel Granduca, industrial systems, equipment, and grounds.

  • Inspect building systems including fire alarms, HVAC, and plumbing to ensure operation of equipment is within design capabilities and achieves environmental conditions prescribed by owner.

  • Perform assigned repairs, emergency, and preventive maintenance. Complete maintenance and repair records as required.

  • Take the lead to troubleshoot and repair of the building and installed systems to include, but not limited to: plumbing systems, kitchen equipment, roofs, drains, and HVAC.

  • Respond quickly to emergency situations, summoning additional assistance as needed.

  • Maintain the hotel's lighting system, including element and ballast repairs or replacements.

  • Respond quickly to guest and internal service requests with professionalism.

  • Maintain clean, organized workspaces and ensure safe use of tools and chemicals.

  • Inspect and maintain pool systems, including water chemistry and filtration.

  • Support exterior maintenance including minor landscaping, painting, and outdoor repairs.

  • Work collaboratively with all departments to resolve maintenance-related issues efficiently.

  • Report safety hazards, accidents, or equipment malfunctions promptly.

  • Maintain compliance with local safety codes and hotel policies.

  • Other duties as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

  • Additional technical or trade school certifications preferred.

  • –3 years of experience in hotel, commercial, or facility maintenance required.

  • Previous experience with pool systems or hospitality environments preferred.

  • Thorough knowledge in all building systems operations, maintenance and repair.

  • Knowledgeable in energy management systems, techniques, and operations.

  • Basic skills with Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, and Excel

  • Basic skills in carpentry, painting, and general repairs.

  • Familiarity with safety procedures, tools, and maintenance protocols.

  • Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair maintenance issues independently.

  • Must have a thorough understanding of HVAC, electrical and building automation systems.

  • Ability to understand and give general instructions in standard situations.

  • Operate and use necessary manual and power-driven tools.

  • Strong organizational, analytical skills, and communication skills in English (verbal and written)

  • Strong customer service orientation.

  • May require shift work, overtime and/or on call duties. See under “Other.”

  • Strong attention to detail and a proactive, guest-service approach.

  • Positive, professional demeanor and ability to work well in a team environment.

  • Stooping, standing, climbing, walking, reaching, and frequent lifting of a minimum of 50 lbs. of equipment (pump, tools, ladders) and ability to safely install rigging/lifting device.

  • May be required to work extended periods of time without relief when responding to priority/emergency situations (including overtime-type assignments).

  • Climb ladders and stairs.

  • Must be able to lift, push, pull, or carry items weighing up to 100 lbs.

  • Comfortable working in confined spaces, outdoors, and at heights (ladders up to 30 ft.).

  • Hotel Granduca Houston operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Scheduling may vary based on operational needs, including shifts, start times, and total hours worked per week. Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
