We are looking for a Director of Procurement and Packaging who is excited to participate in that change journey! The Director of Procurement and Packaging will be responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive procurement strategy that aligns with the company's sustainability goals and overall strategic plan. This role will lead the procurement and packaging functions, ensuring the company secures high-quality, sustainable packaging solutions, botanical ingredients, and other necessary materials at optimal cost. The Director will work closely with the Chief Operations Officer to drive innovation in sustainable packaging, leverage technology for efficiency, and enhance supplier relationships within complex global supply chains.

This position requires expertise in sustainable packaging development, CPG procurement, and ERP systems, with Kinaxis software knowledge preferred. Additionally, an interest in Industry 2.0 and unified namespace principles is highly desirable to drive digital transformation within procurement and packaging operations.

Essential Functions:
Procurement & Sourcing Strategy:

  • Develop and implement a best-in-class procurement strategy for botanical ingredients, packaging, and other critical materials.
  • Ensure sustainable packaging solutions that align with environmental goals and consumer expectations.
  • Optimize sourcing from domestic and international suppliers, managing over 120 botanical ingredients from 40+ countries.
  • Monitor commodity markets and supply trends to mitigate risks associated with volatile raw materials.
  • Lead vendor negotiations and contract management to secure cost-effective and high-quality supplies.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers, co-manufacturers, and packaging vendors.
Sustainable Packaging Innovation:
  • Identify and implement innovative, eco-friendly packaging materials and designs.
  • Collaborate with R&D and Marketing teams to align packaging initiatives with brand values and regulatory requirements.
  • Work with sustainability teams to ensure all packaging materials meet industry standards for recyclability, biodegradability, and carbon footprint reduction.
  • Leverage Industry 2.0 and unified namespace principles to integrate smart packaging technologies into operations.
Technology & Process Optimization:
  • Oversee the procurement module in the company's ERP system (Microsoft Dynamics AX preferred), ensuring seamless purchasing workflows.
  • Utilize Kinaxis or other advanced supply chain planning tools to enhance forecasting and demand planning.
  • Develop and implement data-driven procurement and packaging strategies to drive efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives, leveraging digital transformation trends such as automation and AI-driven analytics.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Leadership:
  • Lead and develop a high-performing Procurement and Packaging team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and accountability.
  • Work closely with Operations, Quality, R&D, and Marketing to resolve procurement and packaging challenges.
  • Act as a liaison between suppliers and internal stakeholders to drive supplier performance and compliance
  • Champion Fair for Life and ethical sourcing practices withing the global supply chain
Supervisory:
  • Manage 3-4 direct reports
  • Oversee hiring, performance management, employee coaching, conflict resolution, compensation, and career pathing for procurement team

Minimum Requirements:
  • 10-15 years of experience in procurement, sourcing or packaging within CPG, food, pharmaceutical or supplement industry.
  • Proven experience in sustainable packaging development and supplier management.
  • Strong background in sourcing agricultural ingredients and replenishment materials.
  • Experience in managing global supply chains and international sourcing.
  • Expertise in ERP systems (Microsoft Dynamics 365 preferred) and knowledge of planning systems where Kinaxis software is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and negotiation skills, with data-driven approach to procurement and packaging decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, develop talent and drive process improvements
  • Experience with Industry 2.0 principles and unified namespace concepts is highly desirable
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or related field. MBA preferred.

Travel Requirements:
  • Ability to travel up to 35% domestically and internationally to visit suppliers, manufacturing sites and trade shows.
Office Hours/Location:
  • This position is based in Rohnert Park, CA. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 – 5:00 pm. This is a hybrid role offering the flexibility to occasionally work remotely. Expected in-offices days are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Subject to change.
  • Remote candidates will not be considered for this role.

Compensation range is: $156,000 – $204,750
Compensation is determined based on non-discriminatory, business-related factors, including but not limited to, training, experience, education and/or professional certifications, geographic location, and market data.
