Project Summary: 

The Increased Demand and Engagement for Accountability (IDEA) Activity is a six-and-a-half-year initiative by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). IDEA aims to support civil society organizations to be more effective in advancing democratic values of citizen participation, government accountability, and rights protection at local and national levels. The IDEA program seeks to support Sri Lankan civil society organizations (CSOs) and CSO-led networks to collaborate more effectively and engage proactively and productively with the government on key issues related to good governance, fundamental rights, gender equality, and sustainable development. IDEA also delivers a comprehensive and targeted capacity building component to support local organizations in developing their organizational and institutional capacities. Initiatives are designed and tailor-made to develop Sri Lankan CSOs technical, management, financial, and monitoring capacities, making them more strategic, inclusive, adaptive, and accountable in performing their role in a democratic society.

Position Summary:

The Training Facilitator will be an expert in communications, media/digital media, or journalism that will conduct a series of communications and digital communications workshops in English, Sinhala, or Tamil. This position will aid in IDEA's 2023 initiative to build the communications and digital communications capabilities of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Sri Lanka through a year-long capacity building program.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with IDEA's capacity building and communications teams to develop training modules and related documents with a combination of theory and practical lessons rooted to local contexts.
  • Tailor the trainings for local CSOs according to their areas of work and the needs assessment results.
  • Facilitate the training sessions using innovative and interactive methods of engagement.
  • Provide technical support to participants during the training/workshops.
  • Conduct post-training assessments of related findings.   

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, media, digital media, journalism, social science, or another relevant field required.
  • Minimum three years working experience in completing communications, digital communications trainings or workshops, or capacity development communications required.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills including experience of facilitation of trainings/workshops and presentations required.
  • Knowledge of digital media landscape and tools, as well as media within the civil society sector in Sri Lanka is preferred.
  • Demonstrated high-level of professionalism and an ability to work independently preferred.
  • Strong writing and communication skills in English and fluency in at least one national language, such as Sinhala or Tamil, is required. Proficiency in second language preferred.
