Tetra Tech is adding a Senior Instrumentation & Controls Engineer to our Instrumentation & Controls team based in Vancouver, BC.

The salary range for this position is $125,000 to $155,000 per annum. Please note that Tetra Tech considers various factors in determining pay, including but not limited to: education, relevant and demonstrated work experience in the role, skills, geographic location, qualifications, certifications, and other competencies relevant to the needs of the business.

 Your Role:

  • Lead a team in the delivery of Instrument and Controls related construction work packages.
  • Collect field information, identify scope of work, prepare engineering reports in accordance with phase gate approach.
  • Develop electrical and instrumentation equipment specifications, control strategies, P&IDs, control system specifications, termination diagrams, instrument installation drawings, cable schedules, block diagrams, material take-offs.
  • Design, specify and integrate complete automation systems including flow computers, PLC, HMI, DCS, SIS, and communication networks.
  • Participate in control panel design and generation of bill of materials, cabling, PLC and HMI programming, and commissioning planning for commercial and industrial facilities.
  • Perform HAT, FAT, pre-commissioning and commissioning activities, operator and maintenance staff training.
  • Participate in PHA, HAZOP, and design review meetings.
  • Work independently on Instrumentation & Controls design as an integrated member of an interdisciplinary design team.
  • Project scheduling as well as in the development of instrumentation and controls estimates.
  • Coordinate activities with Project Managers and Engineering Leads of all disciplines.
  • Communicate with clients for project coordination and business development.
  • Review deliverables prepared by team members in adherence with our Quality Assurance program.
  • Act as Responsible Member for engineering design.
  • Travel - Ranges from occasional (one day trips) to frequent (two to three days trips), with travel time often concentrated in bunches.
  • Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
  • Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
  • Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
  • Additional duties as required.

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation and Instrumentation, or a related field is required.
  • Minimum 15+ years of progressive experience as an instrumentation and controls engineer in heavy industry is required.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in good standing in BC or AB is required.
  • Experience with instrumentation design in industrial process environment is required.
  • Experience with control system (PLC/DCS/SCADA) design is required.
  • Work experience in the Pulp & Paper, Oil Refining, Oil Sands, Gas, Power Generation, Mining, or Water Treatment is required.
  • Experience with industrial network design and implementation.
  • Thorough understanding and knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code, CSA and ISA standards.
  • PLC/DCS Programming experience using industry standard software packages (Studio5000/Tricon/Modicon/DeltaV/Experion is preferred). Experience in HMI development. Hardware/software troubleshooting skills.
  • Formal training from control system vendor or industry software tools considered an asset.
  • Exida / TUV certification and work experience in Functional Safety Systems design considered an asset.
  • Experience designing Burner Management and Combustion Control Systems considered an asset.
  • Proficiency with engineering software and engineering database programs (Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, InTools/Smart Plant Instrumentation, etc.).
  • Adherence to safety policies and procedures.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills required for internal team interfaces and client liaison.
  • Ability to adapt to new projects and quickly understand the defined scope.
  • Demonstrated project management skills.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as needed.
