The Opportunity:

Tetra Tech is adding an experienced Senior Engineering Manager to lead our growing engineering organization in Richland, Washington. This senior leadership role is responsible for developing and managing a multi-discipline engineering and design team while driving project delivery and business growth for government and commercial clients.

 

The successful candidate will serve as Tetra Tech's Richland Office Lead Engineer, overseeing engineering operations, project execution, and strategic expansion into new technical service areas including security and monitoring systems, renewable energy installations, environmental remediation, and construction management.

Position Summary:

The Senior Engineering Manager provides both technical and operational leadership for the Richland engineering office. This role is accountable for building and supervising engineering teams, maintaining regulatory and licensing compliance, delivering high-quality projects, and supporting business development efforts.

 

Essential Job Functions:

Senior Engineering Manager Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the technical accuracy and quality of engineering work products.
  • Develop and grow the Richland engineering organization to meet current project demands and expand into new technical markets
  • Monitor engineering and design performance to ensure compliance with corporate standards and project requirements
  • Assign engineering and design staff to projects in coordination with Discipline Leads and Operations Management.
  • Lead and monitor design and project activities.
  • Maintain compliance with Washington State engineering licensing laws and regulations
  • Ensure consistent application of quality, safety, and technical standards
  • Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
  • Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
  • Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
  • Additional duties as required.

 

Project Development & Project Management Responsibilities

  • Develop new client relationships and identify business development opportunities
  • Lead and manage proposal development and technical presentations
  • Manage projects in accordance with the four project objectives: scope, schedule, budget, and quality
  • Oversee design, construction tender packages, project installation, and cost and schedule tracking
  • Coach and mentor project managers and technical staff
  • Clearly communicate project expectations and resolve issues within project teams
  • Support project reviews and executive presentations

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering
  • 15+ years of progressively responsible engineering design and project management experience
  • Commercial nuclear, nuclear nonproliferation, Department of Energy, National Nuclear Security Administration, or Department of Defense engineering experience strongly desired.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Washington State or ability to obtain reciprocity within three months
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification (current preferred; required within one year)
  • Proven experience developing technical and cost proposals
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to travel 10–25%, domestic and international
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit, stand, and work at a computer for extended periods
  • Occasional lifting of materials or equipment (up to approximately 25 pounds)
  • Ability to participate in field visits, site inspections, and client meetings as required

 

Work Environment / Environmental Factors:

  • Primarily office-based environment with periodic field and project site exposure
  • Travel required for project execution and business development
  • Exposure to construction and industrial environments during site visits

Compensation:

Pay commensurate with experience.

Pay Range: $150,000 – $180,000 annually

 

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience and demonstrated work experience in the above role; skills, certifications, and competencies that align to the specified role; geographic location; and education, as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.
