We are seeking an Environmental Economist, Planner, or Cost Estimator to join our team in supporting a diverse portfolio of environmental and water resource projects. This role will collaborate with senior economists, planners, engineers, and cost estimators to provide analytical expertise for flood damage analysis, alternatives analysis, benefit-cost analysis, plan formulation, risk-based assessments, cost estimating and economic modeling. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to innovative projects and gain experience working with a multidisciplinary team on impactful large-scale infrastructure and environmental restoration projects. The position will also assist Federal, state, and local agencies allocate their resources efficiently and effectively through implementation of economic processes that analyze various options to resolving complex water resource and environmental issues.

As an Environmental Economist/Planner/Cost Estimator, your primary focus will be:

  • Conduct economic analysis, flood damage assessments, and benefit-cost analysis for infrastructure and environmental projects.
  • Assist in developing and evaluating project alternatives using tools such as HEC-FDA, @RISK, and Monte Carlo simulations.
  • Support the preparation of planning documents, feasibility studies, and technical reports.
  • Collaborate with engineers, scientists, and other planners to integrate economic and environmental considerations into project planning.
  • Perform cost estimation for construction projects using MCACES and related software.
  • Utilize GIS tools to support economic and demographic data analysis for flood risk and water resource projects.
  • Engage in risk-based analysis and contribute to risk-informed decision-making processes.
  • Participate in client meetings and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations effectively.

To be a successful Environmental Economist/Planner/Cost Estimator, you'll need to have:

  • A bachelor's degree in economics, planning, civil engineering, environmental science, or a related discipline.
  • 0-5+ years of experience in economic analysis, cost estimation, or planning for water resources, infrastructure, or environmental projects.
  • Proficiency in economic modeling and analysis tools (e.g., HEC-FDA, @RISK, MCACES) is preferred.
  • Familiarity with GIS tools and applications for data analysis and visualization is preferred.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Knowledge of federal and state water resource regulations and guidelines (e.g., FEMA, USACE) is a plus.
  • Experience with benefit-cost analysis and risk-based modeling is preferred.

We offer a competitive hourly rate for this position, with a range of $28-$38 per hour, determined based on your education, qualifications, professional experience, and location of the role.
