Senior Cloud Database Administrator
Locations: UK Remote
The Opportunity
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Cloud DBA to manage, optimise, and secure our cloud-based database systems. This role is crucial for ensuring the high availability, performance, and scalability of our data infrastructure, supporting Blue Prism's innovative automation solutions.
What You Will Get To Do:
- Design, implement, and maintain highly available, scalable, and secure database solutions primarily within public cloud environments (Azure, AWS).
- Design, build, and optimise cloud-based data lake architectures to support scalable, secure, and high-performance data ingestion, storage, and analytics workloads.
- Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement solutions for performance optimisation and tuning.
- Manage database backups, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and business continuity.
- Implement and enforce database security policies, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Automate routine database administration tasks using scripting languages (e.g. Python, T-SQL, PowerShell) and infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., ARM, Terraform).
- Collaborate with development teams to optimise database schemas, queries, and application interactions.
- Provide expert guidance and support for database-related issues, including troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
Participate in capacity planning and resource management for database systems. - Occasionally, work directly with end-clients to maintain and optimise their data.
- Use Git for version control, managing branching strategies, pull requests, and collaborative code reviews.
- Manage and track work in Jira.
- Document database configurations, processes, and operational procedures.
What You Will Bring:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5+ years of experience as a Database Administrator, with a strong focus on cloud database platforms (AWS RDS/Aurora, Azure SQL Database/Managed Instance, Google Cloud SQL/Spanner).
- Expert-level proficiency in relational database management systems (RDBMS) such as PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MySQL, or Oracle.
- Demonstrable experience with database performance tuning, optimisation, and monitoring tools.
- Strong understanding of database security principles and best practices, including encryption, access control, and auditing.
- Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., SQL, Python, PowerShell) for automation.
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., ARM, Terraform) is highly desirable.
- Solid understanding of cloud architecture concepts and services.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex database issues.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and clients.
- Relevant cloud certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Database - Speciality, Azure Database Administrator Associate) are a plus.
