Position Summary:
The CNC Programmer II will independently develop new and troubleshoot and edit existing CNC programs utilizing a CAD/CAM software in the execution of medium to highly complex components. This is a mid-level position that draws on prior CNC programming and machining experience and technical and creative skills to develop processes on 2 or more types of CNC equipment. This role requires programming, set-up, and machining expertise to support daily production and prototype.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design and create a CNC manufacturing process for machined components utilizing a CAD/CAM software on 2 or more of the following types of CNC equipment: multi-axis mills, multi-spindle/channel lathes, Swiss, and wire EDM machines.
- Provide cycle time and tooling cost estimates for new products to Engineering.
- Independently setup and prove-out new programs, diagnose and troubleshoot quality or process related issues, and operate machines as needed on 2 or more of the following types of CNC equipment: multi-axis mills, multi-spindle and channel lathes, Swiss, and wire EDM machines.
- Provide guidance to less experienced Programmers, Operators, and Set-up Technicians for process related issues.
- Identify and order tooling as required to complete jobs and suggest alternatives for operational efficiencies for cost or time savings.
- Creation of toolpath operations and set cutting tool parameters based on material type, tool engagement, cutting tool, and workholding conditions.
- Identify, design, and sometimes manufacture fixturing and workholding required to process job effectively through all operations.
- Participate on workholding design reviews with manufacturing Engineering for in-house launch and turnkey machine specifications for turnkey projects.
- Creation of detailed setup sheets, tool lists, and other process documentation for production machinists.
- Identify difficult to machine features and suggest alternative designs to Engineers to improve design for high volume Design for manufacturability to optimize cycle time and dimensional capability.
- May participate in interviewing, selecting and training new hires.
- Engage in and actively volunteer for continuous improvement projects and tasks.
- Must be able to travel
- Participate in workplace organizational activities and maintain the area in good working order through sustainment activities.
- Must follow all required Safety and ISO procedures.
- Regular on-site attendance and punctuality is a necessary function of this position.
- May be required to work in other functional areas and/or facilities depending on business needs.
- May be required to work overtime or alternate shifts based on business needs.
- Miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Education/Experience & Skills:
- High School diploma or equivalent; Associate's degree or certification in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Quality or other Engineering discipline preferred. Relevant work experience may be considered.
- 5 years minimum of CNC machine setup or equivalent experience and 3 years minimum of CNC machine programming utilizing a CAD/CAM system required.
- Course certification of CAM/CAD training required.
- Proficient in using CAD/CAM software system and is able to create new and modify existing CNC programming files.
- Strong knowledge of G&M Code.
- Intermediate knowledge of Fanuc Macro B CNC programming languages. Ability to edit and modify existing parametric programs and capable of creating macro programs of moderate complexity.
- Basic knowledge of a CAD software design system to create new and edit existing solid models.
- Demonstrated experience interpreting part drawings and fluent with GD&T.
- Experience using and maintaining firearms is desired.
- Ability to select the correct post processor and machine environment within the CAM software.
- Ability to use precision measuring instruments including micrometers and calipers, fixtures, and gauges to check work.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and Access.
- Must be able to clearly, concisely, and accurately convey ideas and information to others, both verbally and in written form.
Working Conditions:
- Regularly perform repetitive tasks.
- Work is primarily standing (90 + % of the shift) except for lunch and break periods.
- Shifts are 8 hours, 10 hours, and 12 hours.
- The duties of this job normally require exposure to a typical manufacturing environment. Frequent standing, sitting, stooping, squatting, walking, and stair climbing can be expected along with frequent lifting and/or moving of tooling, parts containers, and materials up to 40 pounds.
- Must be able to reach with hands and arms, bend and kneel frequently at a minimum of 50% of the shift, as well as undergo repetitive wrist, hand, elbow, shoulder, and ankle motions.
- Must demonstrate proficient fine motor skills, ability to grip, reach, pull, turn, and use tools to torque fixtures in various machinery or in the assembly, machining, or testing of parts.
- Specific vision abilities required may include close vision, distance vision, peripheral and depth perception, and the ability to focus on fine print.
- Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.
- Must comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements and adhere to SIG SAUER Inc. security mandates.
