THE OPPORTUNITY:
As a Practice Development Manager, you will play a key role within the International Practice Development team by managing the business activities of the firm's International Department. This role is a hybrid practice management, marketing/business development, and operations role within a highly collaborative team. You will play an active role in the development and implementation of key departmental initiatives and programs and are responsible for managing the activities of project stakeholders to ensure successful and on-time project execution.
The International Practice Development team supports a group of approximately 70 lawyers in the US, UK, China, Hong Kong, and Australia. Accordingly, you will have exposure to different countries and cultures. You will report to the International Senior Director and will be in regular communication with the International Co-Chairs, Partners, and other attorneys in the team. This role offers immersion into various functions within a law firm, as Practice Development plays a ‘connector' role across the organization.
THE DAY-TO-DAY:
On any given day, you will be working with firm leadership, partners, and business colleagues on a variety of requests and projects. You will:
- Support the Senior Director and Department Co-Chairs in the creation of strategic plans for practice and business development that promote the growth and expansion of the International Department. Responsible for managing the implementation of projects of varying complexity supporting the strategic plans; this involves acting as the liaison to and project manager of attorney and staff teams (e.g., Finance, IT, Talent Development) related to practice/marketing/business development efforts.
- Act as a trusted right hand to Senior Director. Manage implementation of key initiatives with a careful balance of collaboration and autonomy.
- Contribute to the creation of agendas and manages logistics and materials for International Department calls, meetings, conferences/off-sites, and Firmwide partnership meetings. Actively manage related follow-up items.
- Proactively identify and recommend brand-building opportunities for the Department and identifies processes and procedures for new opportunities. Manage marketing and BD efforts (e.g., legal updates, practice credentials, pitches, client webinars/seminars, marketing collateral, etc.).
- Manage Department internal communications – this ranges, for example, from acting as Editor of Department newsletter(s), to ghostwriting select Department Chair emails and presentation drafts, to the upkeep of content on the Department's portal page(s).
- Review, analyze, and communicate monthly financial metrics.
- Manage knowledge management related to Department information, including but not limited to upkeep of experience database and SeyfarthLink sites. Collaborate with relevant team members to repurpose, centralize, and/or “connect the dots.”
- Responsible for implementing the practice development related onboarding tasks for new attorney Department hires.
- Manage preparation of league table/award submissions and reference management.
- Oversee the Department's local counsel invoice process, providing guidance to Administrator of process and making process improvements as needed.
- Handle various ad hoc administrative, marketing and BD projects as requested.
- An undergraduate degree in business or a related field.
- Six or more years of relevant work experience in a professional services environment; law firm experience preferred but not required.
- Proficiency in strategic planning and implementation of marketing and business development strategies.
- Functional understanding of financials, including experience in budget management and resource allocation.
- Acute cultural sensitivity and an interest in working with colleagues across the globe. This includes the ability and willingness to take calls/meetings outside of the typical US (9A-5P) workday.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including grammar and proofreading/copyediting.
- Ability to lead and influence a team of stakeholders including attorneys, administrative staff, and colleagues at all levels.
- Ability to thrive in a collaborative, entrepreneurial, team-based culture.
- A customer service orientation and a sincere desire to help.
- A high degree of initiative and independent judgment with excellent troubleshooting and follow-through.
- Superior organizational skills, extreme attention to detail, and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced and entrepreneurial environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook required; experience with Interaction, Qorus Breeze (or other proposal software), Vuture, or iManage a plus.

The salary range for this role is $125,000 to $135,000 annually, which is based on a 40-hour work week. This range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in Chicago. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee's pay within the salary range will be based on numerous factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, and business or organizational needs. This job is also eligible for an annual merit increase and bonus pay.
