The Research & Development Scientist – Pilot Plant supports product and process development by executing pilot plant trials, applied experimentation, and scale‑up activities for dairy and dairy‑related products. This role focuses on translating formulations and concepts into pilot‑scale processes, generating technical data, and collaborating with cross‑functional partners to support commercialization readiness.

What you'll do

  • Execute research and development activities to support new product development and improvement of existing dairy and dairy‑related products, with a focus on pilot plant and scale‑up execution.
  • Design and conduct pilot‑scale experiments to evaluate formulations, ingredients, and processing conditions under guidance from senior technical partners.
  • Support preparation, execution, and documentation of pilot plant trials, including equipment setup, process monitoring, and sample collection.
  • Analyze experimental and pilot data, summarize findings, and contribute technical insights to support development decisions.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Quality, Engineering, Sensory, and Marketing partners to support product development, feasibility assessment, and launch activities.
  • Evaluate raw materials and ingredients to understand functionality, quality, processing performance, and cost implications.
  • Apply established analytical and testing methods to assess product attributes, quality, stability, and performance.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of experimental designs, pilot results, and project progress in accordance with R&D and quality standards.
  • Follow food safety, quality, and regulatory requirements during all pilot and development activities.
  • Contribute ideas and observations to support continuous improvement of pilot plant processes, tools, and ways of working.

What you will need to succeed

  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Dairy Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific discipline.
  • Typically requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in food Research & Development, product development, or pilot plant operations.
  • Working knowledge of food chemistry, microbiology, and food processing principles.
  • Ability to design experiments, collect and analyze data, and interpret results with guidance.
  • Hands‑on exposure to pilot plant operations and formulation scale‑up activities.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and willingness to learn and apply new approaches.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills to share technical information with cross‑functional partners.
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks while contributing as part of a team.
  • Working knowledge of food safety, quality, and regulatory requirements (e.g., HACCP, GMPs).
