What you need to be successful in this role: 

  • The Locomotive Operator is responsible for daily railcar movement - We will provide training
  • Assist with spotting cars on the correct track; move empty cars and build the outbound train
  • Visually inspect rail cars and perform minor repairs 
  • Understand and adhere to rail rules and safety regulations as prescribed by Savage, our customer, and the Railroad
  • Willingness to work 12-hour rotating shifts - Dupont Schedule

Key strengths of the successful locomotive operator:

 

  • Attend and pass all training associated with job related coursework.  This includes but is not limited to:  OSHA, HazMat and FRA related courses. Willing to complete switchmen, Locomotive and Distributive power training & general safety training
  • Must be able to pass the plant's site requirement test  
  • Strong communication and listening skills including the ability to read, write and understand English
  • Perform basic maintenance 
  • One year or more of Rail Industry experience is a plus
  • Work experience in an industrial environment is also a plus

 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Must be able to climb on and off railcars and locomotives  
  • Walk 2+ miles per day on uneven terrain, etc.
  • Ability to work, walk, and stand on uneven ballast surfaces for long periods of time
