SAIC is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Test Operations Technical Support SME to assist our customers in the Specialized Munition Division's Range Branch at Camp Atterbury, in Johnson County, Indiana. This position will play a key role in overseeing the completion and operation of a unique testing capability being developed to provide the armed forces with cost-effective and efficient options for survivability analysis and qualification.
The Test Operations Support SME will provide advanced technical expertise in the installation, maintenance, testing, and repair of specialized equipment while ensuring safety compliance and operational excellence. In this role, you will collect and analyze high-fidelity data, provide detailed reports to stakeholders, and serve as a liaison between the contractor team, NSWC Crane, program sponsors, and Camp Atterbury leadership.

Primary Responsibilities
- Prepare and review critical program documents, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Procurement Data Packages (PDPs), and engineering reports.
- Provide Range Safety and oversight in test operations using standard operating procedures and overseeing safe test range operations.
- Collaborate with Camp Atterbury Range Control to ensure adherence to Department of Defense (DoD) and facility-specific safety regulations.
- Install, maintain, and troubleshoot advanced testing and diagnostic equipment, including high-speed imagers, data acquisition tools, and other specialized devices.
- Plan and executed testing sequences, capturing critical performance data as required in test plans and customer needs.
- Analyze collected data and prepare detailed, actionable test reports to inform stakeholder decision-making and improve system performance.
- Communicate testing progress, challenges, and milestones upward to program offices and laterally with technical teams to ensure operational alignment.
- Serve as the Test Operations Single Point of Contact, coordinating activities between NSWC Crane and partner organizations for operations at Camp Atterbury and Muscatatuck Urban Training Complex (MUTC).
Additional Considerations
- Must be willing to adhere to all Contractor, Government, and Camp Atterbury safety regulations, technical requirements, and documentation standards.
- Able to travel occasionally to other test environments, including Lake Glendora Test Facility, Muscatatuck Urban Training Complex (MUTC), or other designated test areas, if required.
Work Environment
- This full-time role will be based at Camp Atterbury, Johnson County, Indiana, with limited potential for CONUS travel to additional testing and program support sites.
- The position requires a hands-on technical approach, with interactions to include coordination with engineers, range control personnel, and key stakeholders.
Qualifications
Required Skills and Experience
Associates or Bachelors in an Engineering or Technology field preferred, additional years of relevant experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
Minimum of 5+ years in range operations, testing, system evaluation, and maintenance of advanced equipment in defense or relevant fields.
- Practical knowledge of science and engineering principles related to electrical, electronic, or mechanical systems.
- Proven ability to design and implement test methodologies, emphasizing data collection, performance evaluation, and reporting.
- Expertise in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical, electrical, and high-performance testing systems used in complex testing environments.
- Capability to independently resolve design problems, conceive new techniques, and ensure compatibility of testing systems with overall project goals.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, especially for explaining and presenting technical findings to diverse audiences.
- Experience and demonstrated ability in managing projects independently while meeting deadlines and deliverables.
- US Citizenship Required.
Interim secret clearance required to start with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance. SAIC will sponsor the clearance process.
Highly Desired Skills and Experience
- Familiarity with testing and range operations for munitions, explosives, or similar.
Experience with explosive safety, munitions engineering, and system safety compliance.
- Demonstrated problem-solving mindset with expertise in ordnance, unmanned, or similarly related military diagnostic testing.
- Active DoD Secret clearance.
