SAIC's GLOMAS contract is looking for a Senior Research Scientist to support global modeling and data assimilation support at the agency's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland. Under this contract, SAIC will be responsible for supporting and maintaining NASA Goddard's Global Modeling and Assimilation Office's Goddard Earth Observing System (GEOS) model and data assimilation system.
Job Duties:
Work with NASA and Contractor staff to plan and coordinate scientific research and development efforts involving major components of a GEOS Integrated Earth System model and/or data assimilation system (DAS) and play a lead role in the scientific evaluation of model and/or DAS releases.
Lead and participate in a primary scientific development project.
Interact with scientists at other institutions and present scientific results at conferences, workshops and in peer- reviewed publications.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in atmospheric science, oceanography or other Earth science discipline, mathematics or computational science.
5+ years of scientific experience, including five as a scientific lead
Extensive research experience in Earth system modeling and/or data assimilation, along with exceptional math skills.
Extensive publication record in peer-reviewed scientific journals. Significant experience in scientific programming using Fortran and UNIX customized to run on high performance computing environments.
Desired:
Experience with MPI and/or ESMF programming, with Python, MATLAB and/or scientific graphics tools such as GrADS, and with Python, object- oriented programming, or shell scripting, and familiarity with AI/ML concepts and implementation is highly desirable.
