Immediate need for an Image Scientist focused on the development and execution of a System Initialization and Characterization plan for a new electro-optical satellite system. Additionally the candidate will work with experienced image chain experts to document required activities and tools associated with these system initialization tasks as well as define appropriate product quality metrics to ensure accuracy and integrity of the image data and products delivered to users. Candidate will also have the opportunity to serve on small teams of personnel dedicated to anomaly resolution.

Major duties of the position include:

· Support system initialization and characterization

· Perform baseline assessment of system performance

· Support product evaluations, quality studies, new product initializations, and product algorithm assessments

· Assist in troubleshooting issues uncovered during initialization, and stay actively involved as new versions of software are released to address discrepancy reports (DRs) uncovered

· Refine image quality equation to quantify the expected quality of a system given various parameters

· Algorithm assessment to quantify the performance of a product given desired mission application

· Monitor system performance over time

Qualifications

· Active TS/SCI clearance with Poly

· Degree in Image Science, Electrical Engineering, Math, Physics, or related scientific or technical discipline or equivalent experience

· Bachelors degree and five (5) or more years of experience, Masters degree and three (3) or more years of experience, PhD and zero (0) or more years of experience

· Image processing and digital signal processing experience

· Simulation and modeling experience

· Working understanding and practical application of modeling components of the image path to include sensor, detector, atmospheric and material properties.

· Strong written and oral communication skills, with emphasis on briefing to obtain decisions and solve technical issues and test plans/reports writing

· Ability to work independently and within a team environment

· Good customer teaming skills; ability to collaborate in cross-functional teams

· Strong interpersonal, problem solving, organizational, and multi-tasking skills

· Willingness to learn, solve problems and perform in a dynamic work environment

Desired Qualifications

· 1-5 years of image science and systems engineering experience, with demonstrated proficiency performing image chain analysis

· Experience planning and executing sensor initializations

· Experience working with Electro-optical image platforms

· Understanding and application of image quality standards, scales, metrics and image quality equations

· Practical knowledge of sensor imaging systems, products, and exploitation processes
