The Cable Management Technician is responsible for the installation, organization, labeling, troubleshooting, and maintenance of cabling systems for structured networks, telecommunications, and data infrastructure. This role ensures the efficient management of cable systems to optimize network functionality and reliability. The ideal candidate will have technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently or within a team in diverse environments such as commercial offices, data centers, or industrial facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Installation and Setup:
· Install, route, and secure cables, including fiber optics, Ethernet, and other low-voltage cabling, to meet design specifications that adhere to DOD Security standards/TEMPEST requirements.
· Perform cable pulls and correctly terminate copper and fiber cables (e.g., Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a, coaxial, etc.).
· Configure patch panels, cable trays, racks, and other cable management hardware.
2. Cable Management and Organization:
· Organize and label cables according to industry standards and company protocols (e.g., TIA/EIA standards).
· Implement and maintain efficient cable management systems, including bundling cables and ensuring proper bend radii to include pathway planning and cable routing.
· Perform regular inspections and audits of cable pathways to identify potential hazards or inefficiencies.
3. Troubleshooting and Repairs:
· Diagnose and resolve cable connectivity issues using tools such as cable testers, OTDR meters, and tone tracers.
· Repair or replace damaged cables, connectors, or hardware as needed.
4. Documentation and Reporting:
· Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of cabling installations, configurations, and maintenance activities.
· Create detailed infrastructure diagrams using software tools (e.g., Visio, AutoCAD) when required.
5. Collaboration:
· Work closely with IT teams, electricians, engineers, and project managers to execute projects effectively.
· Communicate project updates and escalate challenges as needed to relevant stakeholders.
Qualifications
TYPICAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
· Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of experience or High school diploma plus 9years of cable management experience.
· Certification in structured cabling or networking (e.g., BICSI, CompTIA Network+, or similar) is a plus.
· Proven experience in low-voltage cabling, cable management, or a related field and proficiency in using cable testers and diagnostic tools.
· DOD TS/SCI is required to start this position.
Preferred Skills:
· Knowledge of structured cabling standards (e.g., EIA/TIA 568, ANSI standards) to include NIST and TEMPEST standards.
· Familiarity with data infrastructure requirements for networks, telecommunications, and fiber optics.
· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail and ability to interpret technical blueprints and diagrams.
· Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work under deadlines.
