Description

Description

SAIC, a leading provider of systems development & deployment, targeting & intelligence analysis, systems engineering & integration, and training capabilities and solutions for the Intelligence Community, is seeking creative and dedicated professionals to fulfill their career goals and objectives while delivering mission excellence on programs of national importance. We are currently seeking a candidate to operate and maintain a guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) lab supporting foreign material exploitation (FME) at a customer location on Redstone Arsenal. SAIC operates multi-disciplined FME labs at this location providing support to the analysis of missile system components from man-portable air-defense systems (MANPADS), short-range ballistic missiles (SRBMs), surface-to-air missiles (SAMs), anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs), transporter erector launchers (TELs), decoys, camouflage and directed energy weapon (DEW) electronics.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Operate and maintain the GNC lab to instrument, characterize, and collect data on inertial sensors for GNC systems of foreign missiles.
  • Select, set up, verify proper operation of, calibrate, and document equipment-test procedures for GNC Lab equipment.
  • Collect data that will verify the guidance instrument model algorithms that are integrated into various simulations, from stand-alone guidance subsystem simulations through complete system flyout simulations.
  • Operate and maintain an Electro-Optical laboratory to instrument, characterize, and collect data on electro-optical and infrared (IR) sensors and systems.
  • Perform optical and opto-mechanical design and fabrication to include optical layout, assembly, and alignment on breadboards, optical benches, and in the field.
  • Perform optical measurements of sources and sensors to maintain laboratory calibrations.
Perform optical and opto-electronic measurements of sources and sensors of relevant parameters to fully describe their operation and expected response to external stimuli that might be encountered in the field of their application.
  • Effectively communicate complex test results and their deeper meaning to colleagues and to the customer in a way that is understandable and can be utilized to support the mission at-hand.
  • Develop custom electro-optical instrumentation and perform necessary electrical test system design, development, and assembly in support of that instrumentation.
  • Additional responsibilities include installing custom equipment such as interface cables and measurement equipment racks and upgrading interface panels. Candidate will be required to select, procure, and integrate instrumentation to support the increased test analysis capabilities of foreign equipment in response to broad Government requirements.

Qualifications

  • U.S. citizen and a Secret security clearance.
  • Candidate must be able to obtain a Top Secret (TS) security clearance with SCI and pass a counter-intelligence (CI) polygraph within 2 years of hire date.
  • BS in scientific field (e.g., physics, applied mathematics, engineering) is required.
  • Experience in using the following equipment and software: 2-axis and 3-axis rotation table, power supplies, multimeters, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, counters, signal and arbitrary waveform generators, C#, NI LabVIEW, Python, C/C++, and MATLAB

Desired Skills

  • Relevant skills and experience can include microscopy, interferometry, spectroscopy, radiometry, programming, embedded systems development, mechanical design and analysis, electrical instrumentation setup and operation, data science, and others.
  • Knowledge and experience working with 2-axis and 3-axis motion simulators, accelerometers, gyroscopes, and inertial measurement units (IMUs).
  • Knowledge and experience working safely with lasers and optics in a research setting including personal safety, common laboratory hazards and their identification, routine use of PPE, equipment safety, optical cleaning and maintenance, and routine maintenance of complex laboratory instrumentation.
  • Experience in performing calibration procedures on test equipment and knowledge of relevant statistical parameters to ensure readiness before, during, and after testing.
  • Experience in maintaining configuration control of lab inventory, scheduling for annual maintenance and calibrations of select specialized test equipment from the manufacturers' service representatives, interacting with vendor technical staff, and packing and shipment of delicate instrumentation.
  • Experience in tracking maintenance records and calibration results to ensure accountability and mission readiness with no delay in responding to Government requests.
