WHAT YOU WILL DO:
The Process Improvement and Safety Engineer will identify and work to implement process and safety improvement opportunities within the operations at Safe Foods' customer facilities. Although based onsite, this position will require traveling to customer facilities and working alongside their designated representatives to improve the safety and efficiency of operations involving Safe Foods equipment and chemicals at their site. In addition, this role may also be involved in similar activities and process engineering support work at our chemical manufacturing locations. The Process Improvement and Safety Engineer will be the technical expert within Safe Foods for day-to-day operations of equipment and chemical utilization at our customer locations. Expectations and activities may include, but not be limited to:
- Utilize various Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) techniques (PHA/HAZOP/LOPA) to conduct safety and operability studies for operations involving Safe Foods equipment and chemicals at customer facilities (primarily) and at Safe Foods manufacturing facilities, as needed/requested.
- Perform Root Cause Analyses as needed.
- Develop, maintain, and continually improve operating and emergency response procedures involving Safe Foods equipment and chemicals at customer facilities (primarily) and at Safe Foods manufacturing facilities, as needed/requested.
- Gain an in-depth understanding of Safe Foods equipment and chemical utilization in our customers' facilities and become the technical expert within Safe Foods for day-to-dayoperations of equipment and chemical utilization at our customer locations (primarily) and at Safe Foods manufacturing facilities, as needed/requested.
- With the above knowledge:
- Identify opportunities to improve safety related to equipment operation associated with chemicals supplied by Safe Foods. Once opportunities are identified, lead the efforts to implement the improvements which may include serving as division representative for capital projects, writing operating and emergency response procedures, and developing and delivering training for facility personnel.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement. - Adhere to all safety policies and guidelines; be accountable for your personal safety and the safety of your co-workers.
- Cultivate and model a safety culture with team members and be an advocate for safe operation of our customers' facilities, as well as our own.
- Perform duties required to comply with SQF standards.
- Provide day-to-day chemical manufacturing support and technical assistance that involves troubleshooting, identifying, and providing solutions for root causes of operational problems using knowledge of chemical processing and data analysis.
- Work in teams or independently to provide safer operations, increase production capacity, improve product yield, and reduce manufacturing costs.
- Manage several projects simultaneously and effectively communicate progress to stakeholders on a regular basis.
- Develop, propose, and implement approved process improvement projects through collaboration with other key personnel.
- Apply sound process economic analysis principles to determine and document project values.
- Lead and coordinate the design, implementation, and support of new processes.
- Assist with developing and maintaining accurate P&IDs.
- Assist with programming development for new processes and improvement of existing automation.
- Provide instructions for ensuring equipment is safely prepared for maintenance work and issue lock-out/tag-out checklists for maintenance work.
- Help build the process knowledge and troubleshooting skills of operating and maintenance personnel.
- Perform other job duties as assigned.
YOUR MUST HAVES:
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline from an ABET accredited engineering school.
- Effective communication, both written and verbal.
- Attention to detail and a keen sense of observation.
- Motivation to solve complex problems and troubleshoot abnormal data.
- Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Comfortable with Microsoft Office.
- Must be highly motivated, self-starter with the ability to work alone, and as a functioning member of a team.
WHAT WE PREFER YOU HAVE:
- Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from an ABET accredited engineering school.
- 2 years of related experience in chemical manufacturing that included responsibilities for process safety and operational efficiency improvement.
OUR ENVIRONMENT:
Combination of an office and manufacturing environments. Periodic standing, setting, pushing, pulling, carrying or lifting materials up to 25 pounds can be required. Personal Protective Equipment (“PPE”) must be worn in applicable settings.
