The Powertrain Product Engineer II will be responsible for component and sub-system design & release
activities within the Powertrain Engineering department. The Powertrain Product Engineer II will be
expected to be self-motivated and work mostly autonomously on project responsibilities requiring
minimal day-to-day oversight. Periodic program leadership check-in, reprioritization, and supervision
will occur to ensure activities remain on track and aligned with specific project objectives. This position is onsite in Allen Park, MI. Responsibilities - Powertrain Product Engineer II:
- Apply relevant engineering analysis to create new powertrain component & subsystem designs to meet customer requirements for product development
- Work with CAD resources to develop 3D models and 2D prints
- Work with CAE resources to analytically evaluate and validate design proposals
- Develop & execute program-specific hardware test plans to validate function while maintaining relevant DVP&R documentation:
- Process data
- Document test results
- Report on status both internally as well as externally to customer
- Interface and coordinate with suppliers to deliver both prototype parts and production solutions
- Support prototype and pre-production build events
- Support production launch for responsible components/systems
- Periodically report out progress and status to program leadership
- Identify when project challenges arise and seek out guidance when necessary
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related degree
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future employer sponsorship
- Minimum 2 years of relevant engineering experience
- Intermediate knowledge of product development tasks and cadence from concept through production
- High mechanical aptitude
- Practical experience creating and maintaining DFMEA and DVP&R documents
- Intermediate understanding of all powertrain subsystems:
- IC engines
- EV powertrain systems and components
- Air Induction & Filtration
- Exhaust & Aftertreatment Systems
- Fuel Systems (gasoline, diesel, and alternative fuels such as CNG & LPG)
- Powertrain Thermal Systems (engine cooling, battery thermal management, and HVAC)
- Ability to read and interpret technical prints and assembly instructions (including working knowledge of GD&T)
- Ability to work both independently and in team settings while handling multiple assignments simultaneously
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint proficiency
- Production launch experience with at least two powertrain subsystems with a major manufacturer (issues tracking and resolution)
- Strong understanding of prototype and production assembly & manufacturing processes as well
as production fabrication and machining methodologies - Prior experience with OEM automotive, military, commercial truck, or agricultural powertrain engineering systems and processes (co-op or full-time)
- Ability to handle new, and sometimes unfamiliar technical assignments with minimal guidance
- General understanding of prototype as well as production manufacturing and assembly processes (ex. low and high volume fabrication and machining methodologies)
- Collegiate experience in a team such as Formula SAE (IC, hybrid or electric) or Baja working the powertrain related subsystems
- Hands-on experience around powertrain hardware (personal projects / routine maintenance, etc.)
- Intermediate 3D CAD software capabilities (to be able to generate initial design concepts/sketches)
