Richardson's UK operations encompass oat milling, malting, animal feed and ingredient processing. Operating under Richardson Oat Milling, Crisp Malt, EDME, and Micronized Food Products (MFP), Richardson supplies the domestic and international food, brewing, and distilling industries.  

We currently have an opportunity for a Maintenance Engineer (Mechanical) at our Crisp Malt, Portgordon location. 

Reporting to the Maltings Manager, the Mechanical engineer carries out planned and reactive maintenance of all site and plant equipment to ensure the required levels of malt production are achieved, work to be in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), all trade related legislation and best practice. The position provides call out cover for out of hours breakdowns.

Key duties and responsibilities:

Carry out planned and reactive maintenance.

Contribute efficiency improvements around all areas of the site

Contribute to continuous improvement on site by maintaining a vigilant approach to your work, identifying, and reporting any areas of interest to site management

Complete maintenance paperwork/computer entry in line with company procedures.

Recommend improvements to the operation of equipment, where appropriate.

Contribute to the installation and commissioning of new equipment and plant, where appropriate.

Ensure full compliance with:   

  • Reactive maintenance including mechanical testing, fault finding, installation and inspection.

  • Carry out mechanical repairs, including bearing replacement, Gearboxes and other drives.

  • Planned Preventative Maintenance schedules.

  • Health & Safety at Work Act etc.

  • Company Policies and Procedures.

  • Food Safety Regulations.

  • Environmental Procedures.

  • Continued personal development by keeping up to date with new techniques, processes, and equipment, undertaking training courses and in house training, as required.

  • Maintain high levels of housekeeping.

  • Carry out other duties from time to time that may be reasonably requested.

  • Excellent problem- solving ability.

Qualifications, skills & experience

Essential

Recognised Apprenticeship/Engineering qualification, BTEC, HNC, or equivalent.

Demonstratable problem solving abilities and Quality awareness

Confident in using computer-based maintenance systems and Microsoft.

Demonstratable ability in Mechanical Testing, fault finding, installation & inspection, use of hand tools/fitting (PUWER)

Demonstratable ability in Welding and fabrication

Full UK driving license

Desirable

Experience working within Maltings with knowledge of DSEAR regulations.

Material Handling Systems, Bucket Elevators, Belt Conveyors, Screws, Diverters etc.

Demonstratable ability in Turning and Milling

Experience with lifting equipment (LOLER)
