**Job Title: Bus Driver**

**Job Type:** Part Time Tuesday and Thursday 9am-5pm

**Salary:** $17-$18

POSITION SUMMARY

 

Responsible for providing timely and courteous transportation for the residents to and from various activities while providing quality service.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties are normal for this position. This list is not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive.  Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Drivers are required to visually conduct a vehicle inspection at the beginning of every shift.  Drivers can refer to and complete the Daily Vehicle Inspection Checklist as a guide for daily visual inspections.
  • Drivers should complete a written inspection report for each vehicle using the Weekly Vehicle Inspection Checklist.
  • Drives vehicle from community area to destination according to assigned schedule.
  • Assists disabled passengers into and out of vehicle.
  • Secures passengers' wheelchairs with restraining devices to stabilize wheelchairs during trip.
  • Safely operates radio, cell phone or pager to communicate with base station or other vehicles to report disruption of service.
  • Maintains all community vehicles in good working condition.
  • Cleans and services vehicles with fuel, lubricants, and accessories.
  • Assists with vehicle registration and license plates renewal process.
  • Meets all Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements.
  • Provides miscellaneous pick-up and delivery services as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Educational Requirements and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current commercial driver's license (CDL) may be required with an acceptable driving record in accordance with Federal Department of Transportation regulations.
  • Experience in a customer service environment, preferably in a senior living setting.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Language Ability:
    • Ability to communicate effectively speaking the primary language of the residents.
    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.   
    • Interacts with guests, residents and staff in a courteous and friendly manner.
    • Ability to respond promptly to resident needs.
    • Supports organization's goals and values.
    • Balances team and individual responsibilities.
    • Must be knowledgeable of all safety precautions and comply with safety measures.
    • Ability to react calmly in emergency situations.
    • Ability to operate a chair lift and secure regular and mechanical wheelchairs and scooters.
    • Ability to work semi-independently without direct supervision.
    • Able to make responsible choices and decisions and act in a resident's best interest.
    • Competent in organization, time management skills and handling multiple priorities.
    • Competent knowledge of local area including traffic patterns to closely estimate travel times and plans appropriate routes to destinations.

  • Possible exposure to chemicals as identified in the MSDS Manual

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions.  Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

The Team Member is occasionally required to stand, walk, climb or balance.   The Team Member must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
