What You Will Do:
Evaluate and advise individuals to assist recovery from or avoid athletic-related injuries or illnesses, or maintain peak physical fitness. May provide first aid or emergency care.
Responsibilities:
•Advise athletes on the proper use of equipment.
•Apply protective or injury preventive devices, such as tape, bandages, or braces, to body parts, such as ankles, fingers, or wrists.
•Assess and report the progress of recovering athletes to coaches or physicians.
•Care for athletic injuries, using physical therapy equipment, techniques, or medication.
•Collaborate with physicians and physical therapists to develop and implement comprehensive rehabilitation programs for athletic injuries.
•Conduct an initial assessment of an athlete's injury or illness to provide emergency or continued care and to determine whether they should be referred to physicians for definitive diagnosis and treatment.
•Conduct research or provide instruction on subject matter related to athletic training or sports medicine.
•Confer with coaches to select protective equipment.
•Develop training programs or routines designed to improve athletic performance.
•Evaluate athletes' readiness to play and provide participation clearances when necessary and warranted.
•Provide athletic training services to student athletes under the direction of the team physician or written order from a physcian in accordance with the state practice act
•Instruct coaches, athletes, parents, medical personnel, or community members in the care and prevention of athletic injuries.
•Act as liasion between family physicians and specialists, the school district, athletes and their parents.
•Perform general administrative tasks, such as charting, keeping records, tracking hours, or writing reports.
•Plan or implement comprehensive athletic injury or illness prevention programs.
•Develop and maintain a budget for the athletic training program
•Schedule and participate in pre-participation sports physicals
•Assist the athletic director as requested.
What you will need:
- Bachelor's Degree in related field.
- Athletic Trainer Certification (ATC) within 90 days of hire.
- Licensed Athletic Trainer in State of WI within 90 days of hire.
- BLS (CPR) Certification, or ability to obtain upon hire.
- AED certification within 90 days of hire.
