Job Summary

The Senior Epic Clarity report writer takes a lead position in analyzing and providing specifications for writing individual reports for their assigned applications. Senior Clarity report writers are responsible for validating Epic Foundation System reports and identifying reporting needs with report consumers, taking the lead on more complex reporting requirements and providing direction to other team members. They must meet with the Epic Analyst and report consumers to understand their reporting needs, as well as coordinate these needs with other Report Writing team members. The Senior Clarity Report Writer will create design specifications for new reports and identify and validate the appropriate technological solutions for various reporting needs, periodically ensuring all Clarity reports are maximized and ensuring duplicity is avoided. They Report Writer may create new reports, using a third-party report writing tools to display Clarity data. Mentors Associate and Mid-level Writers in their roles and supervises work efforts as directed by the Manager.

Accountabilities

  • Demonstrates expert level knowledge of SQL Scripts, Crystal Reporting and  other reporting technologies as well as data structure relationships. Creates advanced SQL/Reporting solutions that meet the business unit's needs.  Mentors and supports the development of other team members abilities with SQL.
  • Understands the Epic data model and determines data structures that benefits the entire reporting environment.
  • Follows functional specification documents to create more complex reports within the Epic application. Completes thorough unit testing of all reports prior to handoff for functional and/or integrated testing. Documents and reports system issues through internal chain of command; communicates vendors where appropriate and takes a lead role in communicating difficult issues with vendors and users.
  • Collects information regarding potential report enhancements and functionality needs. Prepares details of specifications as needed.
  • Applies proven communication, analytical and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate and resolve more complex report issues to maximize system potential.
  • Prioritizes and implements requested reports and changes and analyses new functionality in releases to determine how it should be used, under the supervision of the Manager.
  • Maintains regular communication with Epic representatives and works with the Epic representatives and end user community to ensure the system meets the organization's needs.
  • Provides end user support during implementation; able to serve as a report expert to assist in application roll-out.
  • Documents clearly all reports with Report Name, use, owner, purpose, specifications, database, data fields and other pertinent data points necessary to create a Report databank.

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

This is a non-management job that report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive.

Minimum Requirements

Education - Bachelor's degree Computer science, management information, healthcare or other related field of study.

Experience - 4 years related experience in a business, operations, computer science or clinical field/setting.  A minimum of 4 years Epic or report writing for an integrated EMR experience is required.

Required Certifications/Registrations/Licenses

Epic Clarity certification as required by the position (Lawson Code C066).

In Lieu Of The Minimum Requirements Listed Above

n lieu of the educational and experience requirements noted above, an Associate's degree in Computer Science, Management Information, Healthcare, or other related field of study and 6 years related experience in a business, operations, computer science, or clinical field/setting; OR a High School Diploma and 8 years related experience in a business, operations, computer science, or clinical field/setting may be considered.
