Summary of Job Description:

The Workplace Paralegal (Workplace/Corporate Litigation) provides legal support to the Workplace/Corporate Litigation team in the Corporate Legal Department related to litigation, disputes, government investigations/audits, settlements, employment and labor issues, and policies and procedures related to workplace compliance issues.  This position performs a variety of paralegal work, including but not limited to: tracking data; coordinating summaries of the Workplace Team's activities related to all litigation/disputes for reporting to the General Counsel, Senior Team or the Board; drafting and/or reviewing contracts/settlement agreements, company policies and other legal documents; follows up on, negotiates and resolves disputes related to potential litigation (i.e., low exposure issues like guest complaints and/or EEO complaints); and conducts legal research, under the supervision of an attorney. The Workplace Paralegal supports other departments on minor legal issues.


You'll get a chance to:

  • Coordinate responses to litigation requests using legal software. 
  • Provide broad support to all litigation (discovery, legal research, etc.).
  • Review, negotiate and prepare contracts (a variety of settlement agreements related to, for example, guest complaints, EEOC complaints, wage and hour complaints) for attorney review.
  • Assist in all aspects of team litigation/dispute resolution tasks such as coordinating discovery and e-discovery issues, managing and reviewing subpoena requests, docketing relevant deadlines in litigation or other non-litigation, compliance, and investigation/audit matters.
  • Support other departments on minor legal issues
  • Review and/or draft and revise company policies or other HR-related documents (travel and expense, relevant workplace policies or documents for Operations and Support Center, outside counsel billing guidelines, etc.).
  • Manage and negotiate vendor relationship challenges as relevant to the Workplace/Corporate Litigation functions, such as, litigation holds, e-discovery platforms, and matter management system.
  • Conduct legal research and special projects in support of the Workplace/Corporate Litigation team (employment law research, tracking employment claims for insurance purposes, new vendors, etc.).
  • Manage the billing process with outside counsel, reviewing reports generated by specialized legal billing software.

Your background and experience: 

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Minimum five years of relevant experience.
  • Paralegal certification required.
  • Successful completion of initial and periodically required trainings.
  • Obtaining a valid Food Handler's Card within 30 days of employment is a requirement of this position.


Pay Range: P3: $90,000 - $126,500 / Annual

* Within the range, individual pay is determined using various factors, including work location and experience.

While performing duties, counter areas are often hot with steam from steam table and food vapors. Workspace is restricted and employees are generally expected to remain standing for long periods of time. Employees must prepare hot and cold foods, use Chinese cook knife and other kitchen equipment and work quickly without losing accuracy. Employees must be able to lift up to 50 lbs., stand up to four hours and reach across counter tops measured at 36 inches to serve customers. Kitchens are hot and noise levels are usually high; storage space is limited and shelving is high. Employees must be able to work in a fast-paced work environment, have effective verbal communication skills, ability to adapt to a dynamic environment with changing priorities, and the ability to manage conflicts/difficult situations.
