Summary of Job Description:

The CFT Real Estate Counsel is responsible for preparing, reviewing, and negotiating real estate leases, purchase agreements, easements, CC&Rs, and other contracts relating to the purchase, development, construction, and property management of commercial property. This position Performs a variety of real estate-related legal functions for CFT's Real Estate Legal department; provides proactive legal support and counsel to Purchase & Leasing, Construction and Property Management Teams necessary to assess and reduce risk and exposure to the Company associated with new transactions and development.


You'll get a chance to:

  • Responsible for drafting and negotiating legal documents related to new real estate purchases and development, including, but not limited to, letters of intent, purchase agreements and amendments, REA's, CC&R's, easements, and restrictive covenant agreements.
  • Oversee the work of the Due Diligence Specialists/Paralegals in conducting due diligence reviews and closings for purchases of real estate.
  • Assist construction teams with vendor and contractor agreements and communications with City and other approving entities, and assists with claims and litigation as needed.
  • Responsible for reviewing, drafting and negotiating letters of intent, lease agreements, amendments and renewals related to leasing of new and existing property portfolio.
  • Prepare, review and negotiate brokerage agreements, SNDAs, and confidentiality agreements.
  • Assist Leasing Team by providing legal advice for new and existing tenants, including analysis of landlord and tenant rights as claims may arise.
  • Provide legal counsel to Property Management Team on matters relating to enforcement of lease rights, vendor agreements, third party claims, and other property management related matters. 
  • Oversee outside counsel on litigation related to enforcement of rights and obligations under leases or other agreements, as necessary.                           
  • Provide guidance on tenant breach/eviction, construction related disputes, ADA, litigation, bankruptcy, and other third-party claims.
  • Collaborate with outside legal counsel as necessary on legal and litigation matters to maximize recovery of claims and protect the interests of Company.

Your background and experience: 

  • JD degree and licensed to practice law
  • Minimum four (4) years of real estate and/or corporate legal experience 
  • Successful completion of initial and periodically required trainings.
  • Obtaining a valid Food Handler's Card within 30 days of employment is a requirement of this position.


Pay Range: L2: $136,000- $158,000/ Annual

* Within the range, individual pay is determined using various factors, including work location and experience.





ADA Statement:

While performing duties, counter areas are often hot with steam from steam table and food vapors. Workspace is restricted and employees are generally expected to remain standing for long periods of time. Employees must prepare hot and cold foods, use Chinese cook knife and other kitchen equipment and work quickly without losing accuracy. Employees must be able to lift up to 50 lbs., stand up to four hours and reach across counter tops measured at 36 inches to serve customers. Kitchens are hot and noise levels are usually high; storage space is limited and shelving is high. Employees must be able to work in a fast-paced work environment, have effective verbal communication skills, ability to adapt to a dynamic environment with changing priorities, and the ability to manage conflicts/difficult situations.
