Status:               Part Time (2)

Hours of Work:  (1) Saturday - Sunday 1600-0000

(1) Saturday - Sunday 0000-0800


 Pay Rate:        $15.00/hour during probation, $15.25/hour thereafter with performance increases based off tenure and completion of required tiered training.

Site Description: 

One60 Elgin is a Class A, 1 million square foot office and retail mixed use complex consisting of a 10 story above ground parking garage, 27 story commercial high rise tower and Main Plaza retail concourse. With approximately 5,500 hundred people in the building daily, the building caters to high profile tenants such as Bell Canada, the federal government, prestigious law firms and most recently Telesat. One60 Elgin has been a landmark in Ottawa, being one of the tallest and largest commercial buildings in the downtown area.


  • Man the front desk of the Premises or the control centre or patrol shifts, or any other task, the whole depending on the task assigned to him by his co-ordinator
  • Become, and continue to be, well versed with all processes, procedures and policies, including but not limited to the Post
  • To ensure that all doors are closed and that all equipment is functioning normally and to know what action to take when an abnormal situation is identified
  • Ensure the proper and effective use of equipment used in the execution of the daily activities
  • To ensure the safeguarding of human life and property with the aim of avoiding or at least minimizing loss of life and property; promptly render all possible assistance to co-workers and others in any emergency situation involving protection of H & R Property Management Ltd and its occupants' interests
  • Prevent loitering; deal with trespassers
  • Provide and monitor loading dock access when required and according to policy
  • Receive and dispatch work orders as per procedures
  • Ensure that all elevators and escalators are in proper working order and to follow procedure in the event that a malfunction occurs
  • Ensure that proper order and decorum is maintained in the entire Premises and particularly the main entrance
  • Monitor all equipment in the Control Centre
  • Monitor security access / monitor intrusion alarms, and dispatch patrol staff as applicable
  • Monitor CCTV and ensure DVRs are recording properly
  • Manage the issuance of access cards, the whole as per H & R Property Management Ltd. Procedure
  • Monitor elevator control panel system
  • Monitor and operate fire alarm panel
  • Make voice communications announcement as directed by H & R Property Management Ltd personnel or fire department;
  • Complete Log of all activities in the Control Centre
  • Maintain Key control as applicable
  • Perform additional security duties as required


  • Be a team player and have a strong sense of integrity and professionalism
  • Capable of writing, reading and communicating proficiently in both official languages
  • Must be in excellent health and have no handicap that might affect capacity to carry out any of duties; shall be able to handle exertion, such as standing or walking for an entire shift, climbing stairs and ladders, lifting and / or carrying objects of up to fifty (50) pounds, and running for short distances
  • To be familiar with and have experience with the use of fire prevention and fire alarm equipment
  • To be familiar with and have experience with the use of electronic surveillance equipment, card access systems (preferably CCure system), CCTV systems
  • Very clean and tidy appearance and the ability to display remarkable politeness and willingness to please while remembering not to compromise the safeguarding of people and property and an adherence to policy and procedure.
  • Must have the appropriate attitude with regards to security, customer service, conduct and appearance
  • To have a good sense of judgement particularly when the established lines of conduct may not necessarily apply
  • Must have experience and knowledge as it relates to a Security Agent's extent of authority, responsibility, ethics and obligation
  • Have experience in the writing of reports
  • Have experience with the use of computers


  • Must have a valid Ontario Security Guard License
  • Must have a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience as a security agent in an office building environment similar to that of the Premises
  • Must have formal education in the area of security or equivalent in security experience.
  • Bilingual (French/English) is mandatory
  • Must be able to obtain Federal Clearance – Reliability Status

At the time of the interview applicant must be able to produce proof of completion of the following prerequisites:

  3. Proficient in English & French (both oral and written)

Successful completion of the following requirements provided by Paladin are mandatory prior to placement:

  7. Successful completion of Paladin's online Workplace Respect
  8. Successful completion of Paladin's online Slips, Trips and Falls
  9. Additional courses as assigned
