Summary:

The Speech/Language Pathologist assists in developing speech and language skills to facilitate the personal, social, and intellectual development of students. The Speech/Language therapist will assess, diagnose, and treat speech, language, social communication, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders in school aged students.


Responsibilities:

* The above duties and responsibilities are not an all-inclusive list but rather a general representation of the duties and responsibilities associated with this position
* Conduct comprehensive screenings and assessments, obtain diagnostic information, and analyze information to determine eligibility or continued eligibility for speech and language impairments and for speech therapy as a related service
* Formulate detailed written evaluations reports to include the student's current functioning levels, in the areas of: speech, language, social communication, cognitive-communication and swallowing, determining program eligibility according to the State of Wisconsin, and developing recommendations for treatment
* Consults with teachers, parents, and other personnel and/or outside professionals for the purpose of providing requested information, developing plans for services, making recommendations and/or coordinating speech/language therapy services
* Develop an Individual Educational Plan (IEPs), including measurable goals and objectives for each student's needs in accordance with the BIE Policies and Procedures.
* Effectively case manage and or deliver direct and indirect speech therapy to students as indicated in the Individualized Education Plan in their educational setting
* Identify and select appropriate materials and equipment specific to the individual students' speech and/or language needs.
* Establishes and maintain effective and efficient record keeping (attendance, progress, progress reports, therapy notes), procedures according to the BIE Policies and Procedures and processes of the Special Education Department.
* Establishes and maintains a positive, organized, and safe environment for students.
* Participates in all pre-referral and referral procedures in compliance with the Policies and Procedures of the BIE which the Special Education Department follows
* Participates in training sessions, conferences, and workshops to keep current on practices, programs, and legal issues while maintaining professional certification and/or licensure.
* Ensures that student growth/achievement is continuous and appropriate for age groups and student program classification.
* Establishes and maintains a positive collaborative relationship with students' families to increase student achievement.

Education Requirement - Or Closely Related Field:

Essential:
* Master's Degree in Communication Disorder Services (e.g., Speech Pathology)

Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and adhere to the Nation Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace Policy.

A Tuberculosis (TB) Screening and/or a 2 step TB Skin Test is required within thirty (30) days of employment.

Must provide a copy of diploma/degree, license, or certification upon employment.
