Summary:

Responsible for researching, developing, analyzing, and evaluating safety needs respective to safe and healthy workplace practices while maintaining alignment with established OSHA and Oneida Tribal Safety rules and regulations. Develop, implement (must provide training), coordinate and enforce a formal written Safety/Training Program for all Department of Public Works operations. General activity must be coordinated with all appropriate internal entities as well as internal policies and external agents. 


Responsibilities:

* Develop, implement, monitor and maintain a customer satisfaction system that provides regular and timely feed back regarding service quality, service delivery, customer expectation, customer demand and customer needs.
* Coordinate and facilitate various safety training.
* Evaluate the organizations procedures, facilities, and equipment to identify unsafe adjustments to safe guard employee health.
* Act as a resource to managers/directors in the development, review, and implementation of workplace safety policies and procedures as needed.
* Investigate, review, and make determinations of employee incidents and conditions that may affect employee health and or safety.
* Research, recommend, and oversee the purchase and implementation of safety equipment, assist departments with purchase of safety equipment when needed/required.
* Ensure all current safety regulations and policies are complied with through training, collaboration, and intervention
* Assist and coordinate, including recording and labeling chemical inventories, material safety data sheet (MSDSS), spill protection, storage and hazard communications training on Tribal property.
* Investigate and research safety concerns on Tribal properties/buildings and prepares reports as required.
* Inspect specified areas to ensure presence of fire prevention equipment, safety equipment, first aid supplies, and applicable evacuation plans.
* Establish and design a DPW Committee to address safety needs and concerns within the division
* Network, facilitate and collaborate with other relevant departments and personnel within the organization to ensure a unified national safety effort
* Conduct systematic, regular and as needed inspections of buildings, equipment and work conditions of DPW operations.
* Develop and collect tribal accident/incident information by week, site/location and type of accident/incident.
* Audit ongoing safety activities as to their effectiveness and provide the necessary recommendations for needed changes. Provide follow up recommendations.
* Interact with Risk Management and insurance carriers on safety needs and preventative action.
* Initiate an incentive program, which will recognize each department's safety record.

* Associates Degree in Occupational Health & Safety
* A Combination of Experience and Education May Be Considered
Nonessential:
* Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health & Safety

Credentials:
Essential:
* Driver's License Personal & Tribal Vehicle
* Insurance Required
Nonessential:
* OSHA 500, within two (2) years of hire.
* OSHA 501, within two (2) years of hire.
* Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
* Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
* Driver Safety Training
* Must be authorized as eligible to operate a Personal and Tribal vehicle under the Oneida Nation's Vehicle Driver Certification and Fleet Management Law prior to actual start date. Must maintain driver's eligibility as a condition of employment.

A Tuberculosis (TB) Screening and/or a 2 step TB Skin Test is required within thirty (30) days of employment.
