Description

The Mechanical Engineering Team Lead will provide both technical leadership and people management for a team of engineers responsible for the design and development of factory automation systems. This individual will drive the general design approach, set and enforce best practices, and maintain a disciplined focus on execution to meet deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Design Approach

  • Define and guide the team's overall mechanical design philosophy and approach for factory automation projects.
  • Review and approve system designs, ensuring alignment with performance, cost, and manufacturability requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (electrical, controls, project management, and operations) to ensure designs are integrated and optimized.
  • Lead design reviews and provide constructive technical feedback to drive continuous improvement.

Best Practices & Standards

  • Establish and enforce mechanical engineering standards, CAD practices, documentation protocols, and version control.
  • Promote a culture of quality, safety, and reliability in all engineering outputs.
  • Introduce and maintain design processes that improve efficiency and consistency across projects.
  • Stay up to date on industry innovations, materials, and methods to ensure designs remain cutting-edge.

Project & Team Leadership

  • Lead and mentor a team of mechanical engineers, fostering technical growth and career development.
  • Allocate resources effectively and balance workloads to meet project deadlines.
  • Monitor progress, resolve roadblocks, and adjust priorities as needed to keep projects on track.
  • Partner with project managers to ensure engineering deliverables align with project timelines and budgets.
  • Promote open communication and collaboration across the engineering team and the broader organization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (Master's preferred).
  • 7+ years of mechanical engineering experience, with at least 2–3 years in a leadership or senior technical role.
  • Strong background in machine design, automation systems, robotics, or related equipment.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar) and PDM systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish best practices and streamline engineering processes.
  • Strong organizational skills with proven success in delivering projects on time.
  • Excellent leadership, mentoring, and communication skills.
