The Division of Intramural Research (DIR) of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) is seeking to recruit an outstanding Staff Clinician to support the clinical program of the Laboratory of Translational Research, Critical Care Medicine and Pulmonary Branch, NHLBI. The candidate for the position will provide critical clinical services that allow the Laboratory of Translational Research to continue its basic, translational and clinical studies of cystic lung diseases such as lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM). The staff clinician's responsibilities range from seeing out- and in-patients, preparing and supervising clinical protocols, performing data analysis, performing data analysis, preparation of data for presentation at national and international meetings and publication, and mentoring clinical and laboratory staff . Non-interventional clinical protocols include a longitudinal natural history protocol, a genetic protocol to characterize destructive lung diseases, use of imaging for phenotyping.

There are strong interactions with a wide range of independent research groups, and the position offers exceptional opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration within and outside of the NIH. The existing faculty in the NHLBI DIR is an outstanding group of internationally recognized biomedical researchers, covering a wide range of basic and clinical research topics (please see https://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/research/intramural) complemented by the other research institutes within the DIR (please see http://www.nih.gov/science/#campus). The clinical phenotyping of patients to establish diagnosis, stage and progression of disease, and response to therapy is facilitated by state-of-the-art imaging, histopathology, statistical assistance, and FACS, with collaborative investigators and Core facilities, at NIH and at extramural centers. The Staff Clinician is expected to participate in research that may include basic molecular and cellular biology, animal models of disease, phenotyping of patients through clinical and laboratory analysis, and effects of therapies and other manipulations on disease phenotypes. The Staff Clinician will also provide pulmonary consultative support within the NIH Clinical Center through the Pulmonary Consult Service (https://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/about/divisions/division-intramural-research/pulmonary-branch). The candidate will report to Joel Moss, M.D.,Ph.D.

The successful candidate should have a strong track record of achievement, expertise and experience in pulmonary and critical care medicine with board certification or eligibility in adult pulmonary medicine and critical care. Applicants must have an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. Salary is commensurate with research experience and accomplishments.
