Position Overview

Mercy Hospital St. Louis is seeking a reliable, detail-oriented, and customer-focused Supply Chain Technician to join our Supply Chain team. In this essential role, you will support patient care by ensuring supplies, equipment, and linen are accurately received, stocked, distributed, and maintained throughout the hospital.

The Supply Chain Technician utilizes inventory management and supply chain software systems to support hospital operations, maintain appropriate inventory levels, deliver critical supplies, and assist with equipment and linen distribution. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced healthcare environment, demonstrates strong organizational skills, and is committed to delivering exceptional service to internal customers.

Key Responsibilities Supply Distribution & Inventory Management
  • Fill supply orders accurately and efficiently using supply chain software systems.
  • Procure requested supplies and issue inventory to appropriate departments and locations.
  • Stock supplies in designated bins, PAR locations, specialty carts, and other assigned areas.
  • Verify correct products and quantities are received and stocked.
  • Rotate inventory to minimize waste and prevent expired products.
  • Monitor inventory levels and notify inventory control personnel when stock is low.
  • Ensure package integrity and sterility standards are maintained where applicable.
  • Apply and print patient charging labels as necessary.
  • Accurately count inventory and track deliveries using supply chain software.
  • Deliver requested supplies to appropriate locations throughout the hospital.
Receiving & Distribution
  • Receive supplies and equipment accurately through supply chain management systems.
  • Research and resolve lost or missing packages.
  • Report receiving discrepancies and inventory variances according to established procedures.
  • Prepare supplies and equipment for distribution and delivery.
  • Obtain required receiving signatures when applicable.
Linen Services
  • Maintain linen inventory at designated PAR levels throughout assigned areas.
  • Stock linen closets, exchange carts, blanket warmers, and other designated locations.
  • Rotate linen inventory to ensure appropriate utilization and quality standards.
  • Identify and remove linen that does not meet hospital quality standards.
  • Handle clean and soiled linen according to hospital protocols and infection prevention guidelines.
  • Communicate low linen inventory levels to leadership and vendors as appropriate.
  • Utilize technology systems to manage deliveries and pickups, including robotics and automated transport systems where applicable.
Equipment Distribution & Support
  • Procure and distribute medical equipment to requested locations.
  • Retrieve equipment according to hospital infection control procedures.
  • Clean and prepare equipment for patient use following established guidelines.
  • Assemble equipment as needed.
  • Stage damaged equipment for Clinical Engineering review and repair.
Customer Service & Team Support
  • Provide excellent customer service to clinical and non-clinical departments.
  • Make service recovery decisions within departmental guidelines.
  • Utilize work time effectively to support hospital operations and patient care.
  • Assist with departmental projects and process improvement initiatives.
  • Support training and orientation of new Supply Chain team members.
Technology & Compliance
  • Demonstrate proficiency with supply chain software systems and inventory management tools.
  • Perform accurate data entry, inventory transfers, tracking, and documentation activities.
  • Utilize Microsoft Office applications and other technology tools as required.
  • Complete all required education, competencies, and mandatory training on time.
  • Adhere to all Mercy policies, safety standards, infection prevention guidelines, and departmental procedures.
Minimum Qualifications Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience
  • No prior experience required.
Skills & Knowledge
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency and ability to learn inventory management software systems.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in supply chain, inventory management, warehouse operations, logistics, distribution, healthcare, or customer service environments.
  • Experience using computerized inventory or supply chain management systems.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.
