Key Responsibilities
Medication Management & Clinical Services
- Verify and review medication orders for accuracy, appropriateness, dosing, route, frequency, and therapeutic effectiveness.
- Monitor patient medication therapy and identify potential drug interactions, contraindications, allergies, and therapeutic duplications.
- Recommend, resolve, and prevent medication-related problems through direct collaboration with physicians and healthcare providers.
- Provide medication therapy assessments and recommendations to support the best possible patient care.
- Deliver drug information and education to patients, families, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
- Respond to complex medication-related inquiries and clinical consultations.
Pharmacy Operations
- Oversee the preparation, labeling, dispensing, and distribution of medications.
- Ensure pharmacy services are delivered efficiently and in a timely manner.
- Verify the accuracy of compounded and prepared medications completed by pharmacy technicians and support staff.
- Follow all departmental policies, procedures, protocols, and regulatory standards related to medication preparation and distribution.
- Assist with operational leadership and supervise pharmacy technicians and support personnel as needed.
Quality, Safety & Compliance
- Maintain strict confidentiality of patient, visitor, and coworker information.
- Comply with all regulatory requirements, including HIPAA, patient safety standards, medication-use safety practices, infection prevention, and security protocols.
- Adhere to all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Utilize internal and external resources to support continuous pharmacy operational improvement.
Training & Professional Development
- Participate in the orientation and training of pharmacists, technicians, residents, students, and support staff.
- Pursue ongoing professional development through educational programs and professional activities.
- Foster a collaborative, team-focused environment by providing and receiving constructive feedback.
Required
- Bachelor of Science (BS) in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited school or college of pharmacy.
- Current Pharmacist License issued by the applicable State Board of Pharmacy.
Preferred
- Previous retail pharmacy experience.
- Pharmacists practicing in Missouri must obtain a Medication Therapy Services Certificate issued by the Missouri Board of Pharmacy within 90 days of hire.
