Overview:

The Patient Relations Specialist acts as an administrative liaison to patients, family members, physicians, coworkers, and departments, assisting patients in understanding hospital services and resolving their concerns. It includes receiving and investigating patient complaints to ensure timely and positive resolutions, while promoting patient rights and services in line with regulatory standards and Mercy's mission.

 

•    Responds to requests for information regarding patient care and services, including compliments and complaints, in a timely manner from patients, families, co-workers, and physicians.
•    Visits patients and family members as requested to address their concerns and provide support.
•    Identifies and assesses problems, investigates, and directs inquiries, complaints, and grievances to appropriate hospital staff members, ensuring grievances are documented in SAFE and followed-up in a timely manner.
•    Keeps department and hospital leadership informed of potential problems or trends and reviews and presents monthly reports related to patient complaints and grievances to hospital committees.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: 3 years clinical healthcare related experience required. Prior experience in customer service/patient relations.
  • Required Education: Education in clinical or other healthcare related field required (e.g., nursing, respiratory therapy, physical/occupational therapy, health administration, public health).
  • Preferred Education: Degree in healthcare-related field.
  • Other: •    Understands hospital services, patient care, and regulatory standards.
    •    Able to demonstrate strong communication skills to interact with patients, families, and hospital staff.
    •    Possesses analytical skills to identify trends and make recommendations for process improvements.
