The Nutrition Assistant represents Food and Nutrition Services by delivering multidisciplinary scope, including food and nutrition services, linen, laundry services, housekeeping, and supply management. The Patient Ambassador operates TUG robots for the delivery and exchange of supplies and patient meals to the nursing unit. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards. Position Details:

Overview

Provides Room Service order entry of patient meal selections. Assists patients in complying to therapeutic diet guidelines during the menu selection process. Processes guest tray transactions. Provides office phone coverage.

Job Description Responsibilities
Primary Aspects
a. Demonstrates accurate knowledge of therapeutic diet modification.
b. Provides accurate Room Service order/entry service during meal periods.
c. Assists patients in complying to therapeutic diet guidelines during meal selection process.
d. Prints between meal nourishment and tube feeding supply labels. Deliver tube feeding supplies  to hospital units.
e. Provides Room Service menu supplies to nursing areas as needed.
f. Prints Missed Meal reports before meal service period closes. Contacts patients who have not placed menu orders.
g. Maintains complete and accurate records. Prints patient diet lists at each meal period and files for reference. Completes message log, calculates and records house meal count.
h. Processes early dialysis tray as per department procedure.
i. Answers department phone lines. Directs messages to appropriate personnel.
j. Organizes workstation for next shift. Inventories/orders office and menu supplies, monitors and maintains printer labels, paper and supplies.

a. Demonstrates good customer and guest relation skills.
b. Demonstrates active listening skills.
c. Demonstrates proper telephone management techniques.
d. Repeats Room Service order before order completion process.


Technology
a. Demonstrates use of patient information system current computer/printer functions.
b. Demonstrates use of all aspects of automated diet office system.
c. Verbalizes/ demonstrates knowledge of information system/ diet office software computer down time procedures.

Safety/Risk Management
a. Follows procedures for entering patient and co-worker incident/injury reports.
b. Follows confidentiality policy and procedure.
c. Complies with infection control guidelines.
d. Knows MSDS Manual use and location.
e. Complies with patient rights and regulations.


Coordination of Services
a. Provides professional, courteous interaction with patients/ significant others, peers and other hospital personnel.
b. Informs Department Supervisor of patient food issues or concerns.
c. Informs System Analyst/ Diet Office Coordinator of operational issues.
d. Prioritizes appropriately and utilizes good judgment in use of time to meet department service requirements.
e. Participates in department Q.I. Plan ( Guest Tray Log, Miscellaneous Food Requests, Room Service Delivery Data entry).

Complex Aspects
a. Assists in orientation of new staff.
b. Participates in department projects.
c. Provides financial accountability of Guest Tray monies.
 

Qualifications

Jefferson: Food Handlers within 90 days of hire
SPRG: Food Handlers within 90 days of hire
 Other: Skills, knowledge and abilities: Ability to read and write well. Nutrition in a Nutshell within 90 days. Positive attitude, friendly smile, good personal appearance. Willingness to learn and work as part of a team. Working conditions, mental and physical requirements: Equipment used: Computer and/or tablet, basic food service equipment


Preferred Education: High School diploma or equivalent Preferred Licensure:
