Overview:

 

The hospital operations supervisor will have direct responsibility for daily operations, including evaluating, planning, directing, and coordinating activities for their assigned unit/department(s). The hospital operations supervisor may be asked to undertake various special projects. Performs and/or delegates duties of staff members in the absence of the direct leader. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.

 

Responsibilities/functions applicable to all in the role:

  • Supervise Daily Operations: Oversee the day-to-day activities, ensuring efficient functioning across assigned unit/departments.
  • Financial Stewardship: Use sound fiscal judgment to manage resources effectively.
  • Process Management: Plan, direct, and oversee work processes and staff, as directed by department leader.
  • Systems Implementation: Develop and oversee business systems, collaborating with information technology to ensure timely and accurate implementation.
  • Process Improvement: Implement new procedures to enhance work quality and quantity, consistently communicating and administering policies.
  • Supply Management: Provide oversight of purchasing, inventory control, and charge capture, meeting budgetary requirements.
  • Budget Support: Assist the Manager in developing operational budgets.
  • Time and Attendance Records: Ensure accurate time and attendance records, applying appropriate pay practices/rules.
  • Onboarding and Communication: Welcome new coworkers, facilitate appropriate access, and serve as a liaison for timely communication.
  • Unit Meetings and Participation: Attend and support unit meetings, actively engaging in discussions related to unit operations.
  • Additional duties/projects as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience in healthcare, business, or related field. For individuals with a bachelor's degree or higher, a minimum of 1 year of applicable experience will be considered.  Experience must be consistent with job duties - project management, leadership experience, or other professional experience that is relevant to the job responsibilities
  • Required Education:High School diploma or equivalent
  • Preferred Education:Education: Bachelor's degree in business, healthcare administration, or related field
  • Other: Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving Skills:Strong verbal and written communication.Ability to perform financial analysis and identify trends, opportunities for improvement, and efficiencies.Written Communication:Composing correspondence with appropriate grammar, both written and electronically.Software and Technology Proficiency:Skilled in using high-level word processors, databases, spreadsheets, and PowerPoint software.Proficient in using computers, copiers, telephones, faxes, and calculators
