This position assists the Department Supervisor in the preparation of food for the patients and staff. This includes preparing the patients food according to Physician's orders. Clean the kitchen and dining areas, rotate food and check inventory. Reports to Dietary Supervisor. This position will perform duties as needed. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values and Mercy Service standards.

- Preferred Education: High school diploma/GED is preferred.

- Other: Ability to operate kitchen equipment and have knowledge of food groups and be able to read and understand menus.

Is familiar with various menus used and knows the various supplies and food needed for each menu.
Performs all the duties necessary in the preparation of meals to be served.
Studies, understands and follows the diets as prepared by the Consulting Dietician.
Always follows regulations regarding the proper techniques for food handling and storage.
Assists supervisor in maintaining adequate inventory of food and supplies.
Uses proper care with table service and equipment, checking for breakage, etc, prior to their being stored.
Cleans work area, tables, chairs, cabinets and oven. Washes dishes as needed.
Examines trays prior to being delivered to patients for completeness.
Routinely practices cost effective techniques as needed. Seeks knowledge of cost of hospital resources.
Accepts responsibility individually and collectively for the performance of the team and department. Volunteers to assist team members, changes schedule when asked by Supervisor, sets appropriate priorities and uses good time management skills. Overtime is kept to a minimum and must be approved by Supervisor.
Abides by dress code policy for the department.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Dietary Supervisor or the President/Administrator.
