General Summary of Position

Registered Nurse Outpatient Vascular/Cardiology Associates Part Time (16 hrs/wk)

 

The MedStar Outpatient Cardiology Associates Group in Annapolis is seeking a Registered Nurse with at least 2 years of vascular/ cardiology skills. This position requires the nurse to work closely with our physicians and outpatient team to provide comprehensive care to established patients for the best possible outcomes, while contributing to a diverse, positive, and patient-first work environment. 

 The ideal candidate would be committed to patient focused care, have strong triaging skills to answer patient questions regarding flareups, post- op information and more, be familiar with an outpatient setting, and possess critical thinking skills. Daily tasks would include but not limited to: 

  • Triage patient calls with confidence, compassion, and patience
  • Promoting a positive patient experience
  • Phone visits/ Pre OP education
  • Schedule appointments effectively and manage patient flow
  • Contribute to a positive work environment
  • Work independently with minimal supervision
  • Bring innovative ideas to improve processes and patient care

Please note, our office typically operates M-F, within the hours of 8 am-4:30 pm with some scheduling flexibility based on patient caseload. The two days a week are subject to change based on the need for PTO from staff. The responsibility to cover is split between this position and another nurse.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Actively participates in the direct delivery of patient care which can include performing exercise tolerance testing set-up, cardiac monitor study hook-ups, home sleep testing, endovenous ablation set-up, and port removals to render appropriate clinical support to the physician.
  • Collaborates with patients, physicians and staff by reviewing the daily schedules, obtaining and communicating essential data and assisting other team members to coordinate the effective transmission of patient related information.
  • Collaborates with physicians and clinical team members by calmly and efficiently providing support during emergencies situations and IV procedures.
  • Interfaces with patients, physicians, staff and hospital staff to coordinate hospital procedures.
  • Maintains a regulatory/compliance environment by following organizational policies and procedures to ensure compliance to state, local, and federal standards and regulations.
  • Manages patient lab results and medication levels under the supervision of the physician and by following established protocols to ensure timely response to patient care needs.
  • Orders medical, prescription medications for the Crash Cart and office supplies utilizing the purchase order process by contacting approved vendors to maintain appropriate inventory levels.
  • Provides direct patient care by following practice policies and procedures to render appropriate clinical support.
  • Provides patient education by interacting with patients to discuss cardiovascular care as directed by the physicians and mid-level providers.
  • Verifies, confirms, and submits pharmacy refill requests by following office policies, to include e-prescribing, to ensure accurate and timely drug therapy.
  • Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts.
  • Participates in multi-disciplinary quality and service improvement teams.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. required and
    • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred

    Experience

    • 3-4 years Experience post-graduation as a staff nurse required and
    • Experience in specialty area assigned preferred

    Licenses and Certifications

    • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure Current license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maryland or a Multi-State, Compact State or license eligible Upon Hire required and
    • CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required and
    • Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit. and
    • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification Upon Hire required

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Demonstrated effective communication and problem-solving skills.
    • Basic computer skills.


    This position has a hiring range of $72,758 - $130,041
