Description

Performs a variety of routine clerical support functions such as typing, filing, photocopying and answering phones as assigned.
Education

  • High School Diploma or GED or equivalent required and
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred and
Experience
  • Less than 1 year 6 months related clerical/office work experience. required
Licenses and Certifications
  • No special certification, registration or licensure required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Typing and computer skills.
  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Answers telephone, screens and routes calls, takes messages, and provides information according to department procedure.
  • Assists in the accumulation of data and the preparation of reports and correspondence. Coordinates and organizes all clinical pre-op work for all patients coming through the pre-op and recovery areas.
  • Assists in the distribution of information and processing of laboratory receipts.
  • Completes purchase orders and miscellaneous forms; checks, proofreads, sorts, assembles and distributes materials; operates standard office equipment such as calculators, copy machines, and typewriters. Obtains old charts from Chart View when needed.
  • Orders and maintains office supplies.
  • Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts as required.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Responds to requests for information and assistance in a timely manner.
  • Schedules appointments and meetings. May need to communicate with other departments involved in either the screening or pre-op process for patient preparation to assure the necessary information is on the chart prior to surgery.
  • Sets up and maintains departmental files and records and assists in maintaining office systems. Organizes and files information, reports, and correspondence. May prepare pre-op charts and attempts to obtain all Doctor or Physician's Assistant requested information on patients having procedures.
  • May sort, prioritize, and distribute all incoming mail.
  • Types letters, memos, minutes, and other materials.
