General Summary of Position

MedStar Health has an opportunity for a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist I to join our Palliative Care team at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital.

Under limited supervision, provides a higher level of direct patient care pharmacy services for an assigned, specialized patient population to assure adequate patient care according to professional standards and practices. Advises/consults with patients and their families and with the medical and nursing staff. Participates in research and drug use outcomes management programs within specialty area; instructs and trains pharmacy residents and students. Acts as a mentor to clinical pharmacists.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • Doctoral degree (Pharm D) degree or an equivalent Pharmacy degree from an accredited college of Pharmacy required

Experience

  • PGY-1 and PGY-2, or PGY-1 plus 2 years of direct patient care experience in a specialized area, or 5-7 years hospital experience with at least 4 years in a specialized area required

Licenses and Certifications

  • RPH - Registered Pharmacist in DC required and
  • Board certification in area of specialty within 1 Year required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • PROBLEM SOLVING: Job requires a relatively high level of problem-solving to find solutions to difficult human, technical, clinical or administrative problems.
  • INTERNAL CONTACTS: Internal contacts necessary to effectively advise, consult or counsel others to gain cooperation and acceptance of ideas or actions.
  • INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENT: Work is occasionally performed according to existing procedures and instructions but often requires analysis of problems and development of solutions. This involves determining appropriate methods and task sequences.
  • PATIENT CARE: Assists with patient care by performing duties that allow others to provide direct patient care (e.g., performing lab tests).
  • RESPONSIBILITY FOR WORK OF OTHERS: Responsible as an individual contributor but may sometimes direct one or two other employees.
  • Verbal and written communication skills. Basic computer skills preferred.
