General Summary of Position
Participates in full development life cycle including defining needs of the client, providing input for functional design, writing and configuring code, testing, troubleshooting, and documenting software solutions. Ensures the design of their domain of application(s) and the associated processes are completed successfully, leveraging best practices. Manages process improvements effectively, leveraging existing implemented applications to achieve better performance and outcomes. Documents all work as part of client deliverables, consistently using a professional documentation approach throughout the span of engagement and beyond, resulting in high-quality materials for internal and external usage. Recommends changes in development, maintenance, and system standards. Designs, develops, modifies, debugs, and evaluates programs for functional areas. Delivers quality code that meets requirements and specifications on time.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Creates complex production and parameter-driven reports utilizing various report writers or other tools to meet user information needs.
  • Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness; looks for ways to improve and promote quality of deliverables, work product, and internal processes; applies feedback to improve performance; monitors own work to ensure quality.
  • Designs and builds reports to extract data out of Cerner, and IDX/ GE Centricity Business, and manipulates it into a manageable amount of data.
  • Develops and executes test plans to validate applications prior to requesting a move to production so that no significant problems are found in production.
  • Develops and updates System Documentation including System Specifications, runs instructions and schedules including procedures and techniques for problem resolution in the designated documentation repositories.
  • Develops specifications for needed dashboard/ and executes plans for exploratory analysis of data.
  • Develops use cases for analytic solutions based on the clinical and operational needs of MedStar Medical Group facilities.
  • Develops user documentation.
  • Facilitates a process to define and maintain a core data set of clinical, financial, and administrative data elements for MedStar Health. Develops and maintains a set of standard definitions of all core data set elements.
  • Plans and facilitates meetings (design, development, status updates, support) with business stakeholders, clinicians, technical leads, and others to meet the analytic needs of the customer. Estimates and plans project deliverables. Plans and manages deployments. Ensures optimal end-user performance by establishing and consistently executing overall system performance assessment processes and associated action plans.
  • Serves as a lead member of the MedStar Medical Group Analytics team, dedicated to the development of analytic solutions.
  • Sets up repeatable processes for any given report or data registry. Builds the system out so it automatically updates at the desired cadence (nightly in many cases).

    Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering, or equivalent technical experience required

    Experience

    • 5-7 years Experience in the healthcare industry required and
    • 1-2 years 2 years of data analytics work experience in a healthcare setting required, utilizing cerner powerinsight, business objects, SQL, CCL, SAS or related analytics apps language required and
    • 5-7 years Data analytics experience in a healthcare setting utilizing cerner products strongly preferred and
    • Knowledge of cerner's data model and architecture. experience with one or more preferred programming languages, but not limited to: Java, C#, C++, VC++, Visual basic, Javascript, Ruby, Python or Objective C. required and
    • Experience in constructing complex queries using SQL and strong understanding of database architecture and design (physical and logical) preferred

    Licenses and Certifications

    • No special certification, registration or licensure required

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Requires advanced analytical, conceptual and technical problem-solving abilities.
    • Understanding of data integration issues (validation and cleaning), familiarity with complex data and structures.
    • Excellent interpersonal (verbal and written) communication skills are required to support working in project environments that include internal, external and customer teams.
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, Visio and PowerPoint.
    • Strong interpersonal communication skills to effectively interface with internal/external customers.
    • Customer service skills.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Experience with Cerner Command Language (CCL) and Knowledge of Cerner Millennium systems preferred.
    • Business Objects reporting (PowerInsight) preferred.
    • Experience with relational database design and development (Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle) preferred.
    • Successfully able to use analytics to drive end-user adoption preferred.
