Description

The Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Data and Analytics is critical for driving the vision and execution of the Digital Transformation data and analytics strategy and enabling data-driven decision-making across the Digital Transformation portfolio. As the AVP of Data and Analytics, he/she provides strategic thought leadership, oversees data analytics and reporting efforts, and mentors a high-performing team of data professionals. Additionally, the AVP of Data and Analytics leverages hands-on expertise for data collection and collation, data modeling, data architecture, and analytics to deliver actionable insights that shape business outcomes. Specific functions include the design and build of data products, dashboards, analyses and reporting for various Digital Transformation programs and initiatives and partnering with key stakeholders to develop detailed data requirements in alignment with MedStar's Enterprise Analytics and other data teams on standards for data governance and reporting.
Education

  • Master's degree In related field required and
  • Demonstrated expertise operationalizing data governance, data modeling, data stewardship, data quality, and analytics and insights. required and
  • Doctoral degree Ph.D. or MD preferred
Experience
  • 8-10 years In the healthcare data analytics field required and
  • 5-7 years managing teams with progressively responsible experience in a directly related area, during which both professional and management capabilities have been clearly demonstrated required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Extensive hands-on experience with data wrangling, data modeling, and building data architectures.
  • Proven experience in driving business intelligence, reporting, and advanced analytics to provide actionable insights.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage, mentor, and grow a diverse data and analytics team.
  • Strong experience with data analytics tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, SQL, Python, R, etc.), as well as experience with data engineering and ETL processes. Familiarity with cloud-based data solutions (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills and experience creating high impact presentations, intuitive and well-structured reports and dashboards, and deep-dive analyses.
  • Ability to provide guidance to analytics to produce high value dashboards, analyses and statistical models for clinical use.
  • Strong project management skills needed to organize and manage multiple data initiatives simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with c-suite executives and work collaboratively across the organization using active listening and consensus-building.
  • Leads the development and execution of the Digital Transformation's data and analytics strategy in alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaborates with Digital Transformation leadership to prioritize data initiatives and drive the transformation of raw data into actionable insights. Leads the development and delivery of clear, impactful reports and dashboards that communicate key findings to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Conducts hands-on data wrangling and modeling to transform raw data into actionable insights for business leaders.
  • Designs and develops robust data models, ensuring scalability, performance, and integration with MedStar's Data Lakehouse and other applicable data architecture.
  • Works with cross-functional stakeholders to document data requirements and deliver analytical solutions that drive value.
  • Stays abreast of the latest data technologies and methodologies to ensure the team uses best practices in data storage, processing, and reporting.
  • Builds, leads, and mentors a high-performing team of data analysts and engineers, providing ongoing coaching, task delegation, and development opportunities for team members to grow their technical skills and leadership potential. Manages the team's performance, ensuring that objectives and key results are met and that the team remains aligned with business priorities.
  • Monitors industry trends and lead the continuous improvement of data processes and architecture, leveraging new technologies and tools to enhance data capabilities to meet current and future analytical needs.
  • Prepares and contributes directly to strategic presentations for MedStar's senior stakeholder groups including the CDTO, CEO and Executive Group.
  • Oversees the accountability of the Digital Transformation Data and Analytics team, including hiring quality talent. Removes barriers and manages risks for the team, reporting to department leadership on programmatic and personnel issues, as well as recommended mitigation actions.
  • Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and system in community outreach efforts. Participates in multi-disciplinary quality and service improvement teams.
  • Develops and contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, and standards. Ensures compliance with hospital/facility policies and procedures and governmental/accreditation regulations.
