Summary of Position:
Help keep hospital operations moving by supporting patient placement, nursing staffing, and communication across departments.
MedStar St. Mary's Hospital is seeking a dependable, organized, and service-focused Staffing Office Support Technician to assist with patient bed assignments, staffing-office functions, and essential nursing support services. This position plays an important role in coordinating admissions, discharges, and transfers while helping patients, families, nurses, and hospital departments receive timely and accurate information.
Schedule: Every other weekend; Saturday & Sunday; 6:45AM - 7:15PM

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate patient bed assignments, admissions, discharges, and transfers while maintaining accurate bed-availability, census, and patient-location information.
- Provide staffing-office coverage by receiving call-outs, communicating staffing needs, contacting available employees, entering staffing data, and processing schedule changes.
- Communicate timely and confidential information to nursing leadership, clinical units, Patient Registration, the Emergency Department, physicians' offices, patients, and families.
- Support nursing departments by transporting or delivering patients, specimens, records, equipment, supplies, dietary trays, and linens as assigned.
- Collect and maintain staffing, agency-hours, census, and performance-improvement data using Microsoft Excel while escalating operational or patient concerns to the appropriate leader.
Minimal Qualifications:
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required; active enrollment in an allied-health vocational program or completion of an approved summer internship program may also be considered.
- Previous unit secretary, medical-office, patient-access, or related healthcare experience preferred.
- Data-entry and Microsoft Excel experience preferred.
- Strong communication, organization, customer-service, and multitasking skills.
- Ability to maintain accuracy and confidentiality while managing frequent calls, changing priorities, and time-sensitive requests.
- Ability to work collaboratively with nursing leaders, clinical staff, physicians' offices, patients, families, and hospital departments.
This position has a hiring range of
USD $20.57 - USD $36.27 /Hr.
