General Summary of Position
MedStar Health is currently hiring a Pharmacy Technician Clinical Coordinator in Elkridge. This position plays a vital role in connecting healthcare providers, patients, payors, and pharmacies to ensure seamless communication and coordination of care. This position is focused on supporting patients in accessing prescribed medications, particularly those with complex or specialized healthcare needs.
Key responsibilities include managing and streamlining processes related to medication access, such as benefits investigation, prior authorizations, copay and foundation assistance, and patient onboarding. The Pharmacy Technician Clinical Coordinator may also support various aspects of clinical operations, including coordinating medication delivery, facilitating drug replacement services, and conducting telephonic outreach for prescription refills.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Demonstrates behavior consistent with MedStar Health's mission vision goals and objectives.
- Assists healthcare providers in navigation of the prior authorization and appeals process; researches documents and submits appropriate information to insurance payors; resolves issues and discrepancies and follows each through to completion
- Fosters strong relationships with healthcare providers including physicians, nurses, pharmacists and payors to facilitate efficient communication and coordination of care
- Proactively tracks patient refills coming due, proposes orders to providers, escalates clinical issues to a pharmacist as required, and performs outreach to patients to ensure coordination of all aspects of medication management
- Researches options for copay / foundation assistance drug replacement services and patient financial counseling; facilitates enrollment and / or connects patients to available resources
- Proactively tracks and (re)completes prior authorization and patient assistance enrollments that are due to expire
- Performs patient onboarding benefits investigation order entry and delivery coordination activities
- Ensures patients are equipped with resources (clinical/financial/educational) to maintain adherence to their medication action plan
Minimal Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or GED required
Experience
- 3-4 years pharmacy technician experience in a retail mail order or specialty pharmacy required
- 1-2 years customer service or equivalent experience preferred
Licenses and Certifications
- Must have successfully obtained certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) upon hire or successfully completed the Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT) upon hire.
- Must hold an active Pharmacy Technician license or registration, as required by the state in which the pharmacy operates, upon hire.
This position has a hiring range of
USD $22.48 - USD $39.75 /Hr.
