General Summary of Position
Under Pharmacist supervision, the Central Support Pharmacy Technician assists pharmacist(s) in all areas of pharmacy operations focusing on prescription preparation and customer service through creating and maintaining patient's profiles data entry, and adjudication to third party payors in a central location. Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for correctly sorting inbound prescriptions to the correct queue for processing. Ensures data entry related queues are processed in order based on patient's needs.
- Responsible for meeting daily data entry goals department goals and customer service goals.
- Processes refills and performs data entry of new prescriptions including demographics insurance plans and prescription information under the supervision of a pharmacist and according to policy; brings to the attention of a pharmacist any claims requiring overrides or interventions; troubleshoots insurance claim rejects; and follows up on problem prescriptions.
- Greets customers immediately either in person or within three rings via telephone; performs intake of refill requests and new prescriptions gathers patient demographics and insurance information; clearly marks and prioritizes waiting customers.
- Participates in multi-disciplinary quality and service improvement teams.
- Displays characteristics of inquiry empathy courtesy and respect during communication with patients and associates. Ensures complete communication (closes the loop and follow up) between all patient groups including pharmacy associates physicians and insurance plans in an appropriate and timely manner.
- Solves problems systematically using sound business judgement.
- Acts as back up for the Clinical Access Specialist when necessary.
- Acts as a pharmacy technician in the absence in the outpatient pharmacy by performing daily technician duties to include data entry production adjudication and front-end management. Prepares prescriptions for dispensing counts and verifies medication labels vials appropriately and prioritizes waiters.
- Acts as the inventory technician in the absences by performing daily duties to include receiving checking and putting away the daily order. Returns medication to the shelf after filling; follows established inventory management procedures; participates in physical inventory process at intervals determined by management.
- Processes cash check credit card and payroll deduction transactions; secures appropriate signatures; ensures compliance with HIPAA requirements; prepares delivery tickets; reconciles delivery transactions; performs end of day register procedures; runs daily cash report and completes deposits as assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimal Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or GED required
Experience
- 3-4 years pharmacy technician experience in a retail setting or equivalent training required
- 1-2 years Customer service experience or equivalent experience preferred
Licenses and Certifications
- Must have successfully completed the pharmacy technician certification through the nationally accredited certification examination of PTCB (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board) required or
- the ExCPT (Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians) required and
- Pharmacy technician licensure required or registration as required by the state where the pharmacy/pharmacies are located (Maryland or DC)
This position has a hiring range of
USD $19.55 - USD $34.25 /Hr.
