This is a PRN (per diem) role, working hours may vary based on departmental and operational needs General Summary of Position
Performs a variety of laboratory testing ranging from waived to high complexity in accordance with the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA). Works in one or more laboratory sections. Evaluates and reports results for use in patient diagnosis and treatment.
Primary Duties and ResponsibilitiesServes as a subject matter expert (SME) and knowledge resource for the laboratory.
Prepares specimens for routine laboratory assays.
Performs laboratory assays and analyses.
Reviews and verifies results to ensure data validity and interprets findings.
Applies appropriate procedural techniques related to specimen procurement and handling, instrument operation, operator maintenance, universal precautions, and inventory monitoring.
Performs and documents quality control procedures and proficiency testing in accordance with established parameters and standards.
Accurately enters assay results into client reports.
Resolves validity issues and amends reports as needed.
Performs phlebotomy and other specimen collection procedures.
Ensures client turnaround times (TATs) are met.
Prepares and replenishes reagents and documents quality control information for equipment used.
Prepares equipment for the next shift (e.g., filling reagents, running controls).
Documents and reports problems to the supervisor.
Cleans and stocks supplies in the work area.
Enters and tracks client sample and result information.
Performs maintenance procedures as directed.
Troubleshoots equipment malfunctions and abnormal test results.
Assists with training new technical staff.
Assists in the development of new procedures and protocols to improve departmental efficiency.
Acts as a resource for the department, other departments, external laboratories, and client inquiries.
Manages the department in the absence of the supervisor.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (required).
Two (2) years of previous Medical Technologist experience in a comparable clinical laboratory setting (required).
Two (2) years of experience in chemistry, hematology, blood bank, and microbiology setup (preferred).
Certified Medical Laboratory Scientist (ASCP), ASCP HEW, or equivalent certification (preferred).
Ability to comprehend and follow MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center policies and procedures.
Ability to read, write, speak, and effectively communicate in English to perform essential job duties.

Demonstrates full working knowledge of standard concepts, practices, procedures, and policies, with the ability to apply them in varied situations.
Ability to work collaboratively in small teams to improve operations by offering ideas, identifying issues, and respecting team members.
This position has a hiring range of
USD $35.68 - USD $64.71 /Hr.
