This role is Day Shift, 7am-3:30pm Monday - Friday with every third weekend rotation (Sat/Sun).
General Summary of PositionPerforms routine and specialized assays and provides technical advice and information in one or more clinical laboratory scientific specialties to generate data used in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Analyzes body fluids, cells, and products to identify abnormal and critical disorders associated with disease processes. Serves as a subject matter expert and technical consultant in designated specialty area(s).
Primary Duties and ResponsibilitiesEvaluate specimen adequacy for test performance; obtain specimens for quantitative and qualitative analyses.
Review and verify test results; recognize and follow through on abnormal or unusual results and communicate findings to appropriate personnel. Accurately complete all required documentation.
Perform routine and specialized testing in assigned areas. Correlate laboratory findings with disease stage; integrate and relate data from other laboratory specialty areas. Confirm abnormal results and specimen discrepancies and initiate appropriate follow-up procedures.
Perform and document daily quality control and quality assurance measures to ensure tolerance limits are not exceeded. Advise supervisors of quality assurance and quality control issues. Evaluate CAP and other proficiency testing materials as required.
Analyze technical problems related to specimen collection, laboratory data, and instrumentation; determine root causes and resolve issues in accordance with established guidelines and procedures.
Calibrate instruments and perform and document preventive and corrective maintenance on equipment and instrumentation. Identify repair resources and maintain appropriate documentation.
Participate in continuing education by attending relevant workshops, in-services, or town meetings to accumulate 6–10 documented continuing education (CE) hours per year.
Present one to two in-service sessions per year.
Maintain a clean and organized work area in accordance with established LEAN standards. Decontaminate counters, instruments, computers, telephones, and general work areas per laboratory protocol.
Participate in the education and training of students and new employees.
Provide technical advice and support to other laboratory personnel as needed.
Communicate pertinent information to the next shift to maintain efficient operations.
Demonstrate basic and advanced troubleshooting skills and adhere to quality control and maintenance schedules.
Submit one to two occurrence reports annually that may lead to process improvements.
Provide practical suggestions regarding processing issues and assist with implementation of improvements.
Demonstrate no more than one documented Category A or B (major) error.
Demonstrate no more than ten documented Category C (minor) errors.
Perform all duties in accordance with standard work procedures.
Notify supervisory personnel of issues in a timely manner, including those that may impair LEAN workflow performance, and recommend corrective actions.
Perform workflow audits and thorough LEAN assessments as scheduled. Report completed audit results promptly to supervisory personnel, including recommendations for improvement.
Adhere to predetermined lunch and break schedules unless otherwise instructed to ensure adequate coverage and maintain productivity.
Maintain adequate reagent and supply levels in work areas and on instruments to prevent delays in sample processing.
Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Physical, Biological, or Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field; or
Master's degree in Chemical, Physical, Biological, or Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field; or
Doctoral degree in Chemical, Physical, Biological, or Clinical Laboratory Science; or
Doctoral degree in Medicine.
These degree requirements may be waived for high school (or equivalent) graduates who have successfully completed at least 50 weeks of official military training and held the enlisted occupational specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist (Laboratory Technician).
ExperienceOne to two years of clinical laboratory training and/or experience required.
ASCP Medical Technologist certification required; or
American Medical Technologists (AMT) certification or equivalent required; or
ASCP specialty certification in the designated laboratory specialty required.
Certification requirements may be waived for applicants with a minimum of five years of experience in the designated specialty or for applicants holding an M.D., Master's, or Ph.D. in the designated field.

USD $35.68 - USD $64.71 /Hr.
