At MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, every transplant represents a life-changing moment for a patient and their family. We are seeking a Transplant Financial Coordinator who will play a critical role in ensuring patients have access to the financial resources and insurance support needed to receive life-saving transplant care.

 

In this role, you will partner closely with transplant physicians, care teams, insurance providers, and patients to navigate complex reimbursement processes, verify coverage, and secure financial resources that support the best possible transplant outcomes.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Coordinate transplant financial clearance and reimbursement processes by verifying insurance benefits, compensation coverage, deductibles, co-payments, and advance deposit requirements with insurance carriers and employers.

• Partner with physicians and transplant team members to prepare documentation for third-party payors, including letters of medical necessity, cost/benefit analyses, and supporting materials needed to maximize reimbursement approval.

• Meet with transplant candidates and families to assess insurance coverage, explain financial responsibilities, and assist with identifying eligibility for programs such as COBRA, Social Security Disability, and other financial assistance resources.

• Collaborate with internal departments including Admitting, Utilization Review, Social Work, and Patient Financial Services to ensure all pre-admission, authorization, and pre-certification requirements are completed.

• Participate in transplant program operations and meetings, presenting financial considerations during candidate evaluations and supporting the development of reimbursement programs, policies, and quality improvement initiatives.

• Maintain accurate financial records and reporting, utilizing systems such as PMAS to track insurance information, billing activity, reimbursement data, and transplant program financial outcomes.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in Health Services Administration, Finance, Business Administration, or a related healthcare field required and
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • 3+ years of experience in patient billing, insurance verification, or healthcare reimbursement

This position has a hiring range of

USD $59,820.00 - USD $101,836.00 /Yr.
