To support our continued growth and success, we are seeking a talented Lead Software Engineering to join the Ethoca team. In this role you will be part of a highly agile team building exciting and innovative products delivered at scale to global markets.

Role
The Lead Software Engineer is responsible for leading complex enterprise-wide projects at Ethoca. This position requires significant coding as well as coaching and mentoring a team of engineers. The role involves collaborating with business and product owners to design and deliver services, enhance customer experience, and maintain architectural integrity. As a Lead, you will provide technical guidance to your team in delivering scalable and reliable solutions to incrementally add value to our customers. The suitable candidate should have strong skills in software design, the ability to balance trade-offs, and an interest in new technologies and solutions.

- Leading projects through all stages of the project life cycle, including requirements analysis, estimation, design, development, acceptance testing, and deployment.
- Collaborate closely with Architects, Product Managers, and customers to develop both high-level and detailed design plans.
- Align technical designs and deliveries with business needs, infrastructure capabilities, and security & compliance requirements.
- Design scalable, fault-tolerant, high-performance cloud systems.
- Assess current and new technologies through Proof of Concepts.
- Ensure the ongoing maintenance of live services by meticulously measuring and monitoring their availability, latency, and overall system health.
- Engage in code reviews.
- Provide mentorship, guidance, and support to developers in addressing development and integration challenges.
- Provide support in defining the project scope, determining size, establishing priorities, planning, and estimating tasks accurately.
- Maintain current knowledge of front-end and server-side technologies through self-study, reading industry blogs, attending meetups and conferences, and other professional development activities.
- Conduct technical interviews to evaluate engineering candidates.
- Employ professional judgment and experience to effectively manage trade-offs between competing priorities.
- Streamline and improve the cost-efficiency of a function, service, or architectural strategy.
- Collaborate across teams and organizational divisions to identify synergies and reuse opportunities.

All About You
- Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience in Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science or Engineering.
- Over 7+ years of comprehensive full stack software development experience, including 3+ years in a leadership position.
- Proficient in full stack development with extensive experience in Java (including Spring Framework, Persistence technologies/frameworks, Microservices, Testing frameworks)
- Hands-on experience with one or more of the following technologies: JavaScript, Node.js, Express, React.js, and Angular.js.
- Strong understanding of microservices architecture, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), and CI/CD pipelines.
- In-depth knowledge of web security vulnerabilities and expertise in secure coding practices.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated experience and passion for technical leadership and mentoring.
- Extensive expertise in Agile software development.
- Experience working with Messaging technologies (e.g. Apache Kafka), high volume batch processing technologies (e.g. Apache Spark) a plus.
- Experience designing, developing, and deploying Java webservices using a mix of relational and non-relational persistence stores.
- Solid knowledge of software development principles, design patterns, and best practices.
- Sound knowledge of cryptography functions incl PKI infrastructure, hashing and encryption.
- Experience in data analytics knowledge, experience with ETL, Data Modelling & Pattern analysis is a bonus.

This is a hybrid position. Expectation of days in office will be confirmed by your hiring manager.
