Overview

The Database Engineering team is looking for a Lead Database Engineer to drive our customer experience strategy forward by consistently innovating and problem-solving. The ideal candidate is passionate about the customer experience journey, highly motivated, intellectually curious, analytical, and possesses an entrepreneurial mindset. Provide SQL Server Database support for MasterCard Application databases in On-Prem and Cloud databases. As a Database Engineer, will play a critical role in designing, implementing, and maintaining Mastercard's database systems. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements, optimize database performance, and ensure data integrity and security along with maintaining best practices.

Role

• Experience in configuring, patching, upgrading and/or optimizing database software and related products.

• Understand database security topics including database users, roles, and privileges.

• Intermediate skills in testing, diagnosing, and resolving database issues.

• Participates in the development, maintenance, testing, implementation and support of assigned database technologies and associated software products.

• Partners with technology teams and customers to understand business needs and can communicate solutions in business terms with mentoring.

• Basic to intermediate performance and tuning skills with the ability to identify, respond and resolve database performance issues; communicates database performance resolution to technical teams.

SQL Server Always On knowledge is must. Should be able to handle disaster scenarios.

Additional scripting knowledge would be add on.
• Successfully follow change management, problem management and incident management processes and procedures.

• May manage smaller project/initiatives with specialized knowledge within assigned discipline.

• Good written and verbal communication skills to promote Database Engineering in support of sound database structures, data governance, standards, and procedures to internal and external teams.

• Good documentation skills to contribute to Database Engineering processes and procedures.

• Ability to learn Mastercard best practices in planning, coordinating, implementing, and maintaining database solutions.

• Communicate, collaborate, and work effectively in a global environment.

• Ability to be on-call after hours and weekends.



All About You

The ideal candidate for this position should:

1. Have Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.

2. Proven work experience as a Database Engineer or similar role with expertise in managing SQL Server databases.

3. Strong understanding of database management systems (DBMS), especially SQL Server.

4. Proficiency in working with Windows and Linux based operating system.

6. Experience with database design, normalization, and optimization techniques.

7. Advanced skills in monitoring and reporting tools such as Dynatrace and Splunk.

8. Familiarity with database security best practices such as implementation of SSL/TLS, TDE (Transparent data encryption), Access management principles along with authentication mechanisms.

9. Managing database recovery and availability principles by defining and implementing database backup and recovery principles to guarantee point in time recovery for different database technologies.

10. Defining and implementing database resiliency strategy to test and account for different failure scenarios such as network, disaster, power, etc.

In line with Mastercard's total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary based on location, experience and other qualifications for the role and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role.
