Title and Summary

Lead Cloud Engineer – Database Platform Engineering Overview
Mastercard's Database Platform Engineering Team is seeking a highly skilled Lead Cloud Engineer to strengthen database product development and advance cloud engineering practices.
This role will focus on building secure, scalable, and automated database solutions across AWS and Azure environments, enabling efficient delivery of database services and supporting enterprise cloud initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement cloud infrastructure for database products using AWS services (EKS, EC2, RDS, S3, IAM, VPC, Control Tower) and Azure equivalents.
• Develop and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code using AWS CDK (TypeScript), CloudFormation, and Terraform; scripting in Python is essential.
• Build and optimize CI/CD pipelines leveraging Jenkins, GitHub/Bitbucket, Artifactory, and SonarQube.
• Ensure platform reliability and scalability through automation, observability tools (Splunk, Dynatrace), and proactive incident management.
• Collaborate with database engineers and architects to integrate cloud-native solutions and troubleshoot deployment issues.
• Contribute to cloud governance, security best practices, and compliance (PCI, CIS benchmarks).
• Mentor team members, lead architecture reviews, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
• Establish robust monitoring, alerting, and operational support frameworks for cloud database platforms.
• Influence architectural decisions and contribute to cloud strategy for database platforms.

Required Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in cloud engineering or DevOps, with strong AWS expertise; Azure experience is a plus.
• Experience in designing and deploying custom database solutions and managing cloud-native database services.
• Solid understanding and hands-on experience with major SQL and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, Oracle, DocumentDB, ElastiCache).
• Hands-on experience with Infrastructure-as-Code, CI/CD, and automation frameworks.
• Knowledge of cloud security frameworks and compliance standards.
• Strong problem-solving and debugging skills in distributed systems.

Preferred

• AWS certifications (Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer, SysOps, Database Specialty).
• Exposure to hybrid cloud environments and multi-account AWS setups.
• Experience with cost optimization and performance tuning in cloud environments. In line with Mastercard's total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role. The base salary offered may vary depending on multiple factors, including but not limited to location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. O'Fallon, Missouri: $122,000 - $207,000 USD
