Job Summary

Perform and oversee Cath/EP procedures. Assist Clinical Coordinator with daily operations of the department. Oversee new and existing Technologist training and orientation.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent
Minimum Years of Experience: Five years of experience as a Cath Lab Technologist
Substitutable Education & Experience (Optional): None
Required Certifications/Licensure: Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) or a Registered Radiologic Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) (R);
License RCIS candidates must obtain licenses from SC Department of Labor, Licensing, and Regulation (LLR), as well as SC Radiation Quality Standards Association (SCRQSA) within six months of hire date;
ACLS mandatory or completed within 90-day probationary period.

Essential Functions
  • Work with Clinical Coordinator(s) to coordinate flow. 
  • Reviews schedule with the Clinical Coordinator to ensure proper resources are available at the time of the procedure.
  • Reviews EHR and Medical Imaging Information Systems to ensure all exams are properly completed.
  • Escalates discrepancies to appropriate management & leadership. 
  • Monitors departmental supplies and notifies the Inventory Coordinator and Central Supply when replenishment orders are necessary. 
  • Monitors all department equipment for proper functioning and cleanliness. Notifies appropriate leadership of malfunctions and initiates service calls immediately. Works with service engineers to schedule repairs and preventative maintenance in a timely manner. 
  • Attends appropriate meetings as Lead Cath Technologist as necessary in absence or in lieu of department management.
  • Demonstrates competence to provide developmentally appropriate care/treatment for the following patient population: a. Adult (18 years to 65 years) b. Geriatric (Over 65 years).
  • Able to assist in necessary unit/departmental patient care and inventory control. 
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Ability to observe change in patient condition/status and respond in accordance with ACLS protocol as appropriate. 
  • Ability to complete documentation of procedure including: patient care, conscious sedation and medication administration, inventory utilization, procedural complications, and ongoing assessment of level of consciousness. 
  • Ability to lift assist in the moving of patients or equipment. 
  • Ability to identify, locate, assemble, clean, and transport instruments, and supplies as appropriate. 
  • Ability to escort and/or direct patients, visitors, and physicians around the medical center. 
  • Ability to provide basic and critical thinking during procedures as warranted by patients' conditions and needs.
  • Provides radiation protection in accordance with standards established by the state and federal boards to all personnel working in the Cath/EP lab. 
  • Assists Technologists with all procedures while practicing proper sterile techniques. 
  • Assists with quality initiatives and auditing within the department. 
  • Always practices and implements service excellence.
    Oversee all new Technologist training and orientation. 
  • Facilitate quarterly and annual education for existing staff. 
  • Responsible for creation and modification of the Cardiovascular Technologist daily schedule. 
  • Organizes and covers lunch breaks as necessary.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
